Vandy Assistant Dan Muller is the other likely candidate.

Stay tuned.

Tough gig, yet much deserved.

Hope he gets it...Ray G has been on the hunt for a HC position since he arrived at GU.

He's paid his dues.

Great coach and would like to see him realize his dream sooner rather than later.

He's since become more humble post-Utah and ready to be at the helm & run a program once again.

Good Luck Coach G! You'll be missed if you leave and welcomed with open arms if you stay. Win-win.

Andy Katz had mentioned ex-Wyoming head coach (now assistant at Indiana) Steve McClain as well, but that was early this morning. If he's now out, Ray should have a better shot at landing the gig.

If Illinois State moves past Duke associate head coach Chris Collins then one of the leading candidates for the coaching job will be Vanderbilt assistant coach Dan Muller. Gonzaga assistant Ray Gicacoletti will be in the mix as well as would Indiana assistant coach Steve McClain. Vandy coach Kevin Stallings is a former head coach at Illinois State. Muller had a high-level run as a player with the Redbirds and is going all out for this gig -- as well he should.

Today's ESPN Update, current ISU assistant Rob Judson could be a possible 3rd candidate:

Scott Powers of ESPN Chicago recently reported that Duke assistant Chris Collins would not pursue the Illinois State opening. In our update regarding ISU's coaching search, we had mentioned that if Collins passed on the Redbirds -- which many assumed, considering his father's ties to the school -- the next candidates likely to receive some attention from the athletic administration would be Dan Muller and Ray Giacoletti (of Vanderbilt and Gonzaga, respectively).

However, there is still a chance a dark-horse candidate could emerge. Per Jim Benson of the Pantagraph, Illinois State assistant Rob Judson should still be considered a realistic candidate for the position. In addition, Benson notes the promotion of Judson would help cement the coaching staff; assistant Paris Parham has extensive ties to the Chicago-area, and has been mentioned as a possible replacement for either Kareem Richardson or Rasheen Davis at Xavier.

We will continue to monitor this situation, especially if the ISU athletic administration moves past choice 1B and 1C and expands their search.

Speaking of paying their dues, if Giac goes do they promote one of the grad assistants? Especially this late, it might be hard to get somebody from outside the program. Plus, Hernandez and Michaelson are Zags, it'd be nice to see one of them get bumped up.

Whatever millions he got from Utah is gone in that Pyramid scheme with the AAU coach. I doubt that restitution will amount to much. GU Asssiatnt pay is probably OK compared to most of us.

Hernandez has to be the next in line right? He sits the bench while Michaelson still is the 2nd tier with the redshirts.
