Mathis would never have been put in that situation if Coach Few & Co didn't have faith in his ability to play for the Zags. I have a strong feeling we will see Mathis back on the roster next year playing a role as GU's 3 ball specialist. He just missed that 3 and given the fact he hadn't played in the game at all and came out a little rusty his shot was 99%.

Tough spot to be in but Coach Few drew up that play which showed that he & coaching staff have confidence in Mathis and want him back next year. We call that shot the maturity shot because either way you mature from that shot whether you make it or not.

I thought the exact same thing. It can't be easy on him coming in to possibly shoot the last shot in such a situation. I really like Mathis and think he's improved quite a bit. He definitely has the confidence of the coaches.

:argh:How do you expect a player to hit a 3 at the drop of the hat? the kid has not seen minutes in 3 games almost. He hit a three against WVU but thats it. It really pisses me off when Few puts him as if hes gonna save the team in 8.8secs left?? What the hell is that? Why didnt he give him a run in the second half?

Usually a "3 point specialist" type is deficient in most other areas of the game...they don't rebound, play defense, aren't athletic, they just have one skill.

Mathis is different. He has good height, is a decent athlete, and competes on D. He just has no confidence in any facet of his game BESIDES shooting. Hopefully that will come with time.

Because the game plan wasn't dependent on the 3 point shot up & until that point. The game plan was inside, inside, inside and once they collapsed inside then to throw up the 3. Mathias came very close to almost putting the team in contention to win.

Mathias is going to play a significant amount of minutes next year when a coach has that type of confidence in a player.

Wish Few woulda given out foreign candies (M&M) a limitless more pt this year. Hopefully no transfers & we'll see more of them next year.
