GU looking to go 6-0 for the season and 5-0 against the Big 10.

As sittingon50 just mentioned, Gonzaga just took the second game of the doubleheader against Lamar 6 to 5 in 12 innings.



Hunter Throws First Complete-Game As Zags Beat Illinois

BEAUMONT, Texas - Andy Hunter went the distance for the first time in his collegiate career and the Gonzaga University baseball team's offense grabbed an early lead to help him beat the University of Illinois 7-3 in game one of a doubleheader at the Lamar University YMBL Cardinal Classic Saturday. The Bulldogs improve to 6-0 on the season.

Hunter (1-0) allowed only one earned run on seven hits. He also matched his career-best seven strikeouts.

Steven Halcomb had three hits with two runs and a stolen base. The junior shortstop has recorded a base hit in all six games played this season. Eric Lane, who had two hits on the day, also extended his career-best hitting streak to 10 games.

Royce Bolinger also had a pair of hits, Marco Gonzales and Clayton Eslick both drove in a pair of runs and Billy Moon hit his first home run of the season to help contribute to the Bulldogs offense....

Bulldogs Beat Cardinals 6-5 In 12 Innings; Improve to 7-0


BEAUMONT, Texas - Steven Halcomb's RBI single in the 12th inning brought in Alex Stanford to cap the Gonzaga University baseball team's 6-5 comeback win over Lamar University in the nightcap of a doubleheader Saturday. With the win, the Zags sweep the four-game Lamar YMBL Cardinal Classic and improve to 7-0 on the year.

Halcomb recorded three of the Bulldogs nine hits on the evening. He has also hit safely in all seven games played this season. Stanford had a pair of hits and Marco Gonzales led the Bulldogs in RBI with two. Eric Lane also recorded a hit to extend his career-best hitting streak to 11 games.

David Bigelow (2-0) struck out three batters but allowed three hits and two walks in 4 2/3 innings of relief. Starter Tyler Olson struck out seven batters but allowed two earned runs in 6 1/3 innings....


The Bulldogs will return to Texas next weekend to participate in the University of Texas - San Antonio Classic. They will play one game each against the University of Louisiana - Lafayette, University of Kansas and the host Roadrunners, respectively.
