    Ugly Offense Again...........

19 TO's tonight and 4, count em, 4 FG's in the final 17+ minutes of the game. If BYU was at full strength or we were playing anywhere but the Kennel, we get blown out. Not a lot of movement, spacing, screens, or anything else in the second half.

Thank God we can shoot FT's this year. Great game by Elias, stepped up huge tonight.

The guys need to get this fixed, or the ZAGS are one and done in the Dance, and may not make the finals of the WCC Tourney.

With San Diego beating LMU tonight and the way the Zags have played the last couple games, the guys are going to have their hands full on Saturday in Southern California.

Hopefully, the guys are getting all the bad games out of their system before the WCC Tourney and the Dance.

    Go ZAGS

I thought it was funny the announcers commented that BYU was getting ahead of themselves in offense.

That is our M.O. when we are up by anything over 10. we push and bend it till it breaks almost every game. This time we didn't let the string of TO's get to more than 4 possessions in a row. Whew!!!

we earned that win and BYu made just as many bad trunovers and missed bunnies.

This team tends to check out mentally in games. It was no more evident tonight than when Gonzaga was up 46-31 and Bell was coming in and instead of making sure he got the 2 points he tried for an off the glass pass to Edi. BYU was called for a foul and although Gonzaga got the ball back they did not score on that possession (and didn't score again for quite awhile afterward either). I'm not a big fan of that kind of play, but if you're going to do that you do it with 1 minute left in the game not with 15 minutes left against a team that you need to beat to get the extra bye in the WCC tournament. And there were other brain-dead turnovers and stuff that you see a lot from this team, but that play is the one that stood out the most. Just play your game and keep playing it no matter what the score. Don't let a double digit lead take your mind out of the game. JMO

Pretty negative post for a good win. Give BYU some credit for very good defense and for playing as hard as they could, and for fouling us all night long. Also give Gonzaga for playing great defense. I would agree that that Stockton and Dower really played horrible, but outside of that the Zags played pretty good I thought. Harris was unbelievable. So were Bell, and Pangos. Come on! Have some fun. Celebrate this great victory tonight.
Go Zags!!! The Best Is Yet To Come!!!

I imagine Bell will get a spanking and a time out for that... that will never happen again...

Well, that wasn't the case, so enjoy the win. We did what it took and all that matters is the final score.

The offense gets ugly when we get a lead because Few takes the air out of the ball and the aggression out of the kids. Once you get off the throttle, its hard to get back on it.

Great win, but, Tacoma Zag, and spike jr are both right...If we continue to only have 8 assists and 20 TO's a game...seasons going to end REAL SOON!!! Which, I believe is caused like Spike said, we get a good lead, are playing great..and what does Few do?? He takes the air out of the ball...You think Adam Morrison would allow that to happen?? HELL NO!!! That team..when up by 15, would want to make it up by 30...AND, for once, could Few maybe stand up FOR his players once in awhile?? Instead of standing there, hands in pocket, giggling like a little school girl to the refs. Is he THAT worried what others would think??? Can't let everyone out there in TV land see me yell at a ref!!! We just might GET a few of those calls once in awhile...

Let's just play a smart game on Sat...WIN...and make St Mary's sweat just a little bit more before they take the court at USF...KNOWING that they must win!!

That attempt to bounce a dunk to Edi was the most 'frosh' move I have seen Bell ever play. He knew he screwed up bad. He knows showboating has a time and place and the game was not salted away. He had two chances for two points, and he blew both of them. He was obviously shook up afterward, and should have been.

Also Elias, Carter, Rob and sometimes Bell look right where they are about to throw the pass, and defenders can read the telegraph. Makes me appreciate Blake Stepp and Matt Bouldin all the more, and Pangos now, who really look around so much just before, and during passing the defense seldom has a clue where the pass is going. I am not saying that is an easy skill to acquire, because I was never very good at it, but it becomes more important at D1 level play.

If you think have to think about throwing the pass it's already to late.

I thought things went south for GU after the missed pass off the glass. Then Bell later missed 2 freethrows and I was rooting for him to make a shot to get himself back on track. This was a good win for the Zags but I absolutely agree there was cause for concern. All the 2nd half turnovers let BYU hang in there when the Zags should have been blowing them out, especially with Hartsock on the bench. On a neutral court with Hartsock healthy the Zags will need to take better care of the ball to get past BYU.

Two things. GU stop attacking and played passively (playing not to lose). Second, BYU was over playing and committing fouls. Hard to score fG when you are parading to the line. In all of their losses, BYU has over played and fouled their way out of the game. The key is get on them early and they will foul their game away.
