From Larry LaRue's twitter:

It's official: #Mariners will hit Ichiro Suzuki third this season, likely having Chone Figgins lead off, Dustin Ackley hit second.

Chone Figgins was arguably the worst hitter in baseball last year and wasn't much better last year. Now he will get the most plate appearances on the team. Ichiro, who had only a .310 on base percentage and only a .335 slugging percentage, will get the third most plate appearances. Ichiro should probably bat ninth and Figgins should be released. It's almost like the Mariners are trying to lose.

Hopefully he either gets better by some magic having to do with batting order, or more likely, they realize after a month that him batting first isn't going make him a better hitter, and turn him into the utility player most of us think he should be.

Mr. Sullivan at Lookoutlanding has a blog post about Ichiro batting third. The interesting part, at least for me, are the gifs of Ichiro changing his batting stance.

An article on Fangraphs about Ichiro batting third and his new batting stance. The author, Mr. Moore, speculates that Ichiro altered his stance to add power.

Mr. Cameron from USSMariner weighs in on the new lineup. He doesn't think it will be this way for very long. Either Figgins will suck and get released (most likely) or he'll be good and get traded (least likely).

Franklin Gutierrez hit a home run today....off King Felix.

He's back!!!

I stole this from Lookout landing (http://www.lookoutlanding.com/2012/2/26/2826448/today-its-officially-spring), but as Mr. Sullivan talked about this is really stinking exciting. If he can give the M's 20-25 home runs with solid defense next year who knows how good this team could be.

So Guti is hurt now and probably won't return until May. Dude cannot catch a break. I think we will probably see Caspar Wells in Center and maybe Chone as his backup. If that's the case then Carlos Guillen will probably have to play more often at third. I'm guessing they'll probably let Trayvon and Saunders battle it out for Guti's spot on the roster while he's on the DL.

Any chance of the M's being competitive this year probably included a healthy Guti putting up numbers like he did in 2009. I hope he comes back soon.

Ichiro is a 3 hitter now? Well, you can always count on the city of Seattle to put a losing squad on the field.

Yep. Sorry gu03alum, your optimism is admirable but when you have Ichiro (whom I think is one great player) batting 3rd you are basically saying we do not have any power bats on the team, so don't expect a lot of runs. Ichiro is great at getting on base not so much at knocking in runs.
