Team USA is already up 21 points with 5:49 left in the 2nd period. Matt is saddled with 2 fouls. He has 3 pts., 1 board and 1 assist.

There is a long way to go, and Team USA has to play 9 games in 12 days, but I have a feeling that this group of kids are out to prove something. I listened to a number of player interviews, and everyone of these guys, from the high schoolers on up, have a chip on the shoulder about the fact that no one expects them to win this thing. I also heard the words "team" and "unselfish" used a lot by the players.

here's the MB part

On the long travel day:
Well, the travel day was one of the longest days of my life. It's hard because most of us haven't been to Europe, and we don't know what that's like. Not going to English speaking countries is really hard. Serbia's been nice. It's been hot and obviously a big change from any of the cities that we're all coming from. Overall it's been a cool experience, and I'm excited to play.

On interactions with people around town:
It's funny because most of the people who came up to us weren't from Serbia. We talked to a guy from Holland and a guy from Spain. But the Serbian people, everybody in the hotel has been really nice.

On realization of playing in a World Championship:
I'm definitely starting to feel the whole tension, especially playing in a different country. Wearing USA on the jersey means so much. I really think we're going to feel it tomorrow.

"Wearing USA on the jersey means so much."

I like that.

17 min, 5 pts, 3 boards, 2 dimes. box (http://www.serbia2007.fiba.com/pages/eng/fe/07/fiba/u19men/scheResu/p/eventid//gamename/4/groupname/B/langlc//roundid/5640/fe_scheStat_boxScor.html). as CDC said, foul trouble.

Tomorrow at 9am Pacific, USA vs the host country. According to this preview (http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/new/story/u19_world_championships_preview40984), Serbia's got some talent.....and length!!
The Serbian’s have a roster stacked with NBA pro prospects, led by 7’0” Miroslav Raduljica and 7’3” giant Boban Marjanovic. 6’10” small forward Marko Keselj and 6’6” point guard Stefan Markovic are also highly touted prospects.Throw in the fact that Serbia was involved in the lowest-scoring game of Day 1 and the lowest-scoring game of Day 2 (they won both). A team that apparently prefers to slug it out...(to the extent you can with a short clock)

Up-tempo team on the road versus the big grinders........recipe for a tight game??

Go Matt!

Serbia struggled with Mali quite a bit until they put them away late. They won by 23. Team USA beat Mali by 62.

Deon Thompson getting zero points just illustrates how players can't be judged by this, because I'd take Deon in a nano-second. He was one of our biggest recruiting losses, imo. And yet he scores nil for Team USA.
