just shows we are off to a great start and that there is no reason this team can't make it to the sweet 16 or further. all losses were to tough top 25 teams (imo) and some big wins against teams like Notre Dame Xavier Arizona...

What I can't figure out is why with one loss at St. Marys (that we didn't show up to mentally) it is a forgone conclusion by more than a few - on another thread (reg: how many losses will the WCC champs have this year) that our streak stops this year. I don't get it. After coming back from a conference THREE game losing streak to tie as co-champs last year why are so many giving up with only one loss??? I think more than a few on this board are intimidated by SMC because of one bad game on the road. At least wait for the rematch before throwing in the towel!!!

Go Zags! Stay Strong!!!

The road to the WCC crown still runs through Spokane. I think the guys will be ready at the Kennel.

Hopefully, BYU takes out SMC in Provo (revenge) and we beat BYU in Provo. If SMC beats BYU, then we have to follow suit. Then, the game for the WCC crown is in Spokane on Feb. 9th.

Will be fun to watch.

Go ZAGS

Wow. That IS interesting. Thanks for posting.

It's odd that this is one of the best starts in the last 12 seasons, yet, a lot of people question this team and talk like their not that great/impressive. And we have played a very solid schedule too. And of the 3 losses, we've been RIGHT there at the end in 2 of them.

You wouldn't know it half the time woohoo when you read the board. Half the time I become convinced that the Zags are bordering on .500

The whole cloud of doubt comes from the EXTENT of the loss to St. Mary's.
What did that drubbing mean? We are in a limbo at this moment between two possible interpretations.

If it meant they are one step above us in quality, day in and day out, home or away, we can interpret that to mean we will not make it to conference winner this year.

If it meant any good team can lose on a given night, and St. Mary's played out of their minds, we can interpret that to mean the lopsided spanking was one of those flukes that can happen once every season to anybody, even great teams. If this interpretation is valid we still have an excellent chance to win the conference title, or at least share it like last year.

The proper way to interpret the sound beating will all be told when they play 40 minutes on our floor at the Kennel. At that time we will know what the drubbing meant.

North Carolina lost by something like 30 at Florida state that same week. They've re-grouped and are playing well again from what I've seen. We just ngeed to find our groove again.

The most interesting I found was that of Few's Sweet 16 appearances, only one of those team's sat at a 17-3 record after 20 games.

I think that part of the negative thinking (and I am guilty of doing so occassionally) is rooted in the fact that tje conference has not been this tough from 1-6 since GU started its run of championships.

Many still feel that it is obvious that we have the talent and shoud continue to win the conference every year. So, when that is threatened, we (I) start to worry. This aspect coupled with the feeling that this team is STILL underperforming compared to what they are capable of, leads to a lot of worry and negativety.

Great post.

Personally I feel some GU fans would be relieved if some other team than GU won the WCC. Seriously I think the pressure is getting to many GU fans...

We are having a very nice year and are solid all around even if we are young at many spots and might not have any truly elite players, at least nationally.

Finally, while SMC is a very good team they have not played a single game on the road at a top 25 team, and won't until they play the Zags. Lets not forget that LMU won handily at BYU so I think the title comes down to GU and SMC once again. Lets see if GU can hold court at home and they decide it all on a neutral court for the WCC tourney, Either way both teams should make the Dance.

Just got done watching BYU & SMC. SMC won buy about 15 and the fans at BYU were throwing things at the end of the game. A very physical game. BYU tried a comeback but SMC was justto strong. Carlino looked like a real force toward the end of the game.

Waldo has emerged as a legitimate star. He looked good at GU, LMU and now BYU. Looks like SMC has the next big guy to contend with.

I think SMC will not lose except for possibly the GU game and that's a big question mark. SMC did get rattled with BYU pressure.
