I thought I'd start another meaningless thread until the first game starts.

So the black socks pulled up high is the style now? Just like grandpa. Whatever, that's cool but could we get our guys some dark blue to match the uniforms?

Actually, I thought more of Grandma, with those red stripes up the back, looking really crooked. Reminded me of my mom trying to keep her seams straight on her nylons in the fifties. :p

I still have a problem with the latest trend in the nameless jerseys that are now popular. It won't take long before I'll be able to remember who our new kids are this year, but as the season rolls on it sure helps my feeble memory remembering who's who on all the other teams.

Does anyone know why this trend is popular?

As usual I'm confused... Maybe if I was just a little younger...

Wait... What???

We took the names off the jerseys somewhere in the middle of league play in the 08-09 season. It seemed there was a general perception that the team wasn't playing up to their potential because of bad team chemistry, possibly from selfish play.

I'm not sure why it's become a fad, but it appears we had our own reasons. I would like for everyone else to have the names on there, even though I like ours without.

And I remember the scene from "Robin Hood: Men In Tights" where Little John had them check his seams, then broke into song! LOL

Because we want our guys playing for the name on the front, not the back

I'm sorry but that's just stupid, people just say that cause its cool to quote. No player is going to play unselfish if someone rips the name off his/her Jersey.

I really like the names on the jerseys, if you couldn't see where this was going.

It is a product of the teams culture. A name or lack thereof on the jersey by itself isn't going to effect things, but it does help to reinforce team norms and values.

So as Few says, This year we have great chemistry. So does that mean we'll get first AND last name on the jerseys? Sweet!!

My 83 year old mother never misses a GU broadcast game but she can't tell the players apart without names on their jerseys. I doubt she is the target demographic for GU and Northern Quest Casino and the other advertising sponsors of GU broadcasts, but it is a PITA when folks who do not live and die with GU basketball can't tell who is who.

Do the Zags have any players this year that are capable of doing the Errol Knight "pull the chair" out defensive maneuver this year to get the travel call? Just curious...

The black socks are a throwback thing to the days of the Fab Five.

...speaking of socks. I'm thinking about throwing out all my non-dress socks and buy 20 pairs of the same kind. I'm thinking this should substantially shorten my clothes folding missions. Ever notice socks sorting takes longer than all other clothes types combined? Maybe I should just quit wearing socks completely......nope, shoes get funky too quickly.
