Next year Gonzaga will have it's first All-American since Adam Morrison.

For reference: http://www.basketball-reference.com/awards/all_america.html

I'm gonna say false for two reasons: 1) relatively large amount of talent in college basketball this year; 2) the high level of talent distribution amongst the zags this year, especially in the front court...these awards can favor players who are really the primary standout on their team

False.

Power Forwards and / or Centers usually only occupy ONE spot anyway.

The 1st Team AA is usually 4-guards and a big. Sacre or Elias would have to earn that one spot for a big.

It won't happen.

1st Team WCC is a maybe. A boat load of talent in our Conference this season.

Heck, Rob Jones, Peris Blackwell, Brandon Davies, Drew Viney, et al are more than capable of out performing our very own bigs within Conference. Do I think it'll happen? No, but just pointing out a post player has to put up huge #'s to even be considered for All-American honors.

Why must I mean first team? Gonzaga hasn't had an All-American since Adam Morrison in 2006. Blake Stepp and Dan Dickau are the Zags only other All-Americans since the streak began. So why limit it to the first team?

Yes....we 'll have more than one.

Yes....we 'll have more than one.

I don't mean honorable mention either. Keep in mind the depth really does hurt any player's chances.

False - the popularity contest that is the AA teams usually favors the east coast guys and with the makeup of our team, it'll be hard for one guy to build a resume gaudy enough for serious consideration

So why limit it to the first team? I was asking a question, that squigly thing at the end of my sentence is a question mark. Well..it appears you mean any of the three All American Teams...but not Honorable Mention? (that is another of the aformentioned squigly things).

Aren't there like 5 levels of all-americans?

If first-team, no. If any of the other levels, yes thanks to Mr. Harris.

I'm going with a solid no.

If the player wasn't in the dicussion in the prior year, they won't be high enough on the radar at the start of this year to make enough of an impact on the voters.

Nobody played well enough last year to be that guy this year.

Let me recap for you CJ:

False, we won't have a AA player this year because no one on this year's roster was all that high on the radar at the end of last year.

False, because if we do, we would likely be losing a sophmore to the draft.

A day or 2 ago, somebody posted CBS Sports' preseason top 100 players. Harris was #20, and the highest ranked player west of Kansas/Texas. And he's on most of the Wooden award preseason lists. If reports we're getting are true and he returns to freshman form, he'll be in the conversation.

1st team All American? That would require Harris being one of the top three frontcourt players in the nation. In a simple broad sense analysis. East coast bias in the media aside I really don't see that happening. False.

Not that it wouldn't be great.

If healthy, anything is possible.

However, if you examine the past 3 season, both Harris & Sacre have been hurt and/or missed significant time due to injuries at one point or another.

We just gotta keep these guys healthy.

If so, the sky is the limit...

Harris has the most probable chance as he's a much better rebounder than Sacre.

I see us having a lot of All Americans. I'm glad to see the Zags making the healthy choice!

Agree. I'm continually amazed that the toll of illness and injury is overlooked by sport's pundits and fans. Bouldin's senior year is a prime example. Tournament time is so often about who survived the season in good health. In that light, I think we possibly overachieved last year...and then the wrist injury.

This year's team has enough promise to give hope to a multitude of possibilities, even an AA player. As much as preseason hype is just nerve wracking, I wouldn't rule out anything.

Right on tua. One would hope with this year's depth that the impact of an injury would not be as great as in the past few years. Not to say there would not be an impact.
