Lookin' good Gentlemen. Go get 'em!
http://www.gozags.com//pics32/1024/ZQ/ZQGZNTNUOURLHKT.20111004212239.jpg
(Back row L-R): Ryan Spangler (15), Guy Landry Edi (10), Elias Harris (20), Mathis Mönninghoff (22), Mike Hart (30), Kyle Dranginis (3), Kelly Olynyk (13), Chris Sarbaugh (14), Sam Dower. (Front row L-R): David Stockton (11), Gary Bell, Jr. (5), Marquise Carter (2), Mathis Keita (25), Kevin Pangos (4). Riding Spike: Robert Sacre (00).

PS-> Did Stocks grow 2 inches and put on 10lbs or is it just me? Could it be an optical illusion caused by him standing closer to the camera or is it just called off-season dedication?

Big Rob riding the bulldog!

TOTALLY does not surprise me!

Also noticed....did Rob shave his head?? And it is interesting that the mid-high sock trend is apparently coming back. When I played basketball in HS, everyone either had really low ankle socks, or very high socks up their calf. The mid-high sock just annoyed everyone, but just about every zag is wearing them.

Spangler looks big/broad. No wonder he can rebound. The pic confirms my thought that he's a bigger version of Pendo. Bell is definitiely 6' 2" and I don't see how he can play the 3/small forward position as some think.

Monninghoff does not look 6' 7". I thought he was. He looks more like 6' 3". Keita looks really muscular. I hope he has improved because at times last year I thought he played great. Like many freshmen, he was very inconsistent. I look forward to seeing what he can do this year. He definitely has the body to play at this level.

From a quick glance it looks like Dower has put in some time in the weight room. We all know he has an awesome left hook but if he adds some power moves we might have a real monster down low. Nice work Sam, keep up the good work!

Somebody's gotta carry on the Morrison, Gourde tradition of wild and crazy hair on the Gonzaga hoops team.

I put the roster with all the heights up on my screen next to the photo (there is also a small version of the photo above the roster).

The roster sorted by height:

Men's Basketball - 2011-12 Roster

Front row l-r): David Stockton (11), Gary Bell, Jr. (5), Marquise Carter (2), Mathis Keita (25), Kevin Pangos (4). Riding Spike: Robert Sacre (00).

35 Sam Dower C 6-9 248 So. RS Brooklyn Park, MN
13 Kelly Olynyk F 7-0 238 Jr. 3L Kamloops, B.C.
00 Robert Sacre C 7-0 260 RSr. 3L North Vancouver, B.C.

(I shortened MM's name so I could get the columns to line up--oops that didn't work when I went to post it--it reverted to its mis-aligned state.)

It seems to me that from the photo, there is no way to compare the height of the individual players in the photo. Even given that the roster heights may be embellished a bit, the camera angles and stances make it impossible.

When speaking of "Zag hair", we can't leave out Dickau, Bouldin, Pendo, & Gray.

Sarbaugh is sporting some nice homage hair in that pic...

I'll be honest, I was a LITTLE upset when I first saw that coach decided to have me photoshopped out of the picture....I mean....I think it looks pretty good myself. BUT...I can't make decisions for the team, so....I guess it's no big deal.

I DO think the restraining order they got against me is a little harsh though. I mean really....it wasn't even a REAL knife, and it was scotch tape (which is basically like the thinnest kind of tape there is).

Funny whoohoo.

Reborn, looks like MM is leaning back slightly, distorting his height...but yea, compared to Elias, he does look much smaller.

I'm wearing REALLY thin shoes, it makes me look short.

Plus, I'm kind of wearing a solid color. It seems like my wife said solid colors make you seem super short. (Or is it super fat? I can't remember)

You can actually see MM's leg poking through a crack, as if he was trying to sneak into the front row :D , so yeah it doesn't seem like he was standing up completely straight.

Hate to burst your bubble, gzwh, but it wasn't Coach. As I understand it, to a person the guys besieged the staff and insisted on a "team vote" -- and, unfortunately it was unanimous -- 19*-0 to leave you on the cutting room floor. *The managers were also allowed a vote.

Ugh, dangit. I KNEW I shouldn't have asked little Stocks for a lock of his hair. I think that freaked them all out a little.

1) This is Big Rob's team.

2) Nicely done, Woohoo.

3) Cut Sarbaugh some slack--the Zag hair has a life of it's own.

4) And speaking of Zag hair, don't leave this guy out of the discussion:

judging from both photos
either GBJ is 6'2"
or
Marquise Carter is 6'3"

rather than the advertised 6'1 for Gary
and 6'4 advertised for Carter

looking at the meat on GBJ's bones, I would say he will play as tall as Carter for most purposes, esp. if he has hops

I would imagine he has great vertical movement in his game but I don't know

anybody know anything about Gary's hops?

How does having meat on your bones make you play taller? Maybe i should start getting fatter...

I don't think "taller" is the right word, but I prefer short players to be a little fatter (if that word can be used to describe GBJ) because they can use size to compensate for a lack of height. GBJ won't be backed down and posted up on by bigger guards as say a 6'2" 160 lbs guard. GBJ will be able to absorb contact going at the hoop better than a skinnier guard, generally speaking. He will be able to block-out and hold his position on defensive rebounding better than a skinnier guard.

I'd rather have Nate Robinson with the muscle than 5'8" and 135 lbs. I'd rather have Pargo's extra weight.

ZagsGoZags

Dear awberke

What I was thinking when I said that was players like Ira Brown who was a forward at 6'4" and Pargo whose strength and thickness allowed him to drive the lane against much taller men and use his strength and body to go right at them, then fade a little for the shot

I think players tall and thin, can't do that as well
