View Full Version : Demarquise Johnson still high on GU

Update: A few weeks ago, it would appear that Demarquise Johnson, a 2012 guard, was no longer considering Gonzaga. However, in a recent Scout recruiting report, Johnson reaffirmed his interest in the WCC powerhouse. Johnson says he has an offer from the Zags and, per his father, Gonzaga is one of three schools that he has the closest relationship with.

But do the Zags have space for Johnson in their backcourt? If Johnson does make Spokane his college home, the Zags will have at least five guards by the time Johnson is eligible (David Stockton, Mathis Keita, Gary Bell, Kevin Pangos and Kyle Dranganis). Of course, it's possible coach Mark Few will find space for Johnson (if he does commit) but it would appear the backcourt will be a bit crowded.

I see him as more of a 3 and we definitely could have space there. ESPN also mentions him as "one of the elite scoring guards in the country" but that the rest of his game needs much work. They also say if he does the work necessary to improve the rest of his game he will be "an excellent D1 guard".

The article also touches on the impact of Donnie Daniels as a recruiter for Gonzaga.

Stay away from D Johnson. Steve Fisher wants him in the worst way and I just upgraded my seats at Viejas Arena.

Me has to wonder if the GU staff has their sights set on Katin Reinhardt.

That's been my general impression.
