SPOKANE, Wash. (June 3, 2011 Ė http://www.gozags.com) Ė Gonzaga Universityís athletic teams turned in another strong performance in the classroom as reflected by the year-end grades.
A total of 109 student-athletes made either the Presidentís List (3.7-4.0 grade point average) or Deanís List (3.5-3.69 GPA) this past semester. The Bulldogs had 13 teams receive 3.0 or higher GPAs for the spring semester, led by the 3.50 of both womenís track and field and womenís soccer. Womenís track and field, womenís soccer and menís tennis were closely bunched for the best cumulative GPA, womenís track and field getting the nod with a 3.46 GPA over the 3.44 by both womenís soccer and menís tennis.
In all, 61 student-athletes made the Presidentís List with 48 represented on the Deanís List. Gonzagaís teams combined for a 3.26 spring GPA and have a 3.23 cumulative GPA.
ďThis represents another great year of work by our student-athletes in the classroom. I canít thank them enough for the effort they put forth every day not only on the field of competition but in the classroom as well,Ē Gonzaga athletic director Mike Roth said. ďEvery one of our coaches and support staff should also be commended because they all, in some way, help shape the high academic accomplishment our student-athletes constantly generate.Ē
