Surprising if you ask me. Miami is a dead end job. While it is the ACC, the Hurricane basketball program is horribly supported.

Internet rumors had K-State's Frank Martin lobbying hard for the Miami job.

Must have been nothing to it. I have to believe they would have loved to get Martin.

Seems like an odd mix. George Mason will be a great job for someone. Program on the rise. Nice school for 30 K kids. Sad to see him leave it.

this looks like a pretty good opportunity for a guy who wants more, either $$, challenges, or perhaps even a change in administration, alums or climate.

Huh? He's a good recruiter, yet I can't possibly fathom a less likeable Coach in College hoops than K-State's Frank Martin. I've heard he's a self-absorbed ass on AND off the court.

Yeah he's a total hothead, but is totally connected to every high school in Miami, he would've kept the hometown kids home, i.e, Brandon Knight, plus all the Latin kids.

ESPN had this on one of their blogs (http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/30013/miami-wants-coach-to-be-a-positive-person) earlier this week and wondered if the comments were indirectly talking about Martin:

Miami introduced new athletic director Shawn Eichorst on Tuesday, and the man directing the search for the new basketball coach outlined the type of person he wants.

"We will do what's necessary, and we will exhaust all resources to find a basketball coach that will fit what Miami needs at this time," Eichorst told reporters (video from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel). "It will be a fundamentally sound person who is positive and treats young people with the utmost respect, and we will take as much time as we need in order to find that person."

According to the Sun-Sentinel, Eichorst later added, "I want our kids to be treated in a very respectful and loving manner. I want a positive person. I don't like negative people. I want a coach who's going to respect the game and the way the game should be played."

I know I wouldn't want him coaching my kid; he comes across as a real jerk.

Skimming the article from the link above, I didn't see Martin's name mentioned at all, yet it is Martin's picture shown in the caption. Anyone that doesn't know otherwise would assume that this is a picture of Larranaga.

Crazy stuff man.
