View Full Version : Size & Fire : (Shelby Cheslek pics from NW Shootout)

(More pics to be posted. I'm also working on the Gary Bell set).

I would expect most 6'5" women to try playing basketball if they have any athletic skill at all.
But I wouldn't know what to expect from a 6'5" teenager who has also done some modeling, singing, etc. Does she like to mix it up?? Draw some contact? Bang inside??
So, that's what I wondered upon watching Shelby Cheslek play.
I was very pleased with her aggression. She's a finesse player, but I saw toughness as well. I got the sense she really wanted to be a basketball player.....and is willing to work and get stronger to be a better player.
I watched her practice a "step through" move before the game......and she later tried it. Willing to work.
She got a lot of offensive rebounds today....sometimes a few on the same possession. Just going to the boards has rewards.
Defensively, she had several blocks, just because the offense "forgot" she's 6'5", and thought they'd get a foul call.
The competition and height in college might catch up a little.....but I think she can get better, too. She already has a nose for the ball.
She certainly is unique.

(Jen Reese, about 6'2", is one of the best players in the state, but she just wasn't going to get this turnaround jumper over Cheslek.)

She just looks like a basketball player.....(Didn't they have green shoes for her??)

(Nilles didn't do much, because the other players were doing much of the scoring.)

Coach Graves thinks Shelby has a chance to be great in a couple years. He's very high on her and her future. Nice pics, mix.

Great photos. It is amazing how far digital photography has come in the past 10 years.

Thanks for the compliments. It mostly about the lens. (I'm now poor because of it, so I'm now living in a house made of Wheaties boxes).

It's also about the processing. These shots at ISO-2000 take some work to clean.

Posted a few more, at the start of this set.

I really think she has toughness that can be developed even more.
I did some reading, and her family has a strong basketball background.
This is not just a pretty girl who just happened to get tall and got thrown on a court.

(She has a FT routine that is "different." It's stylish, though......Spins the ball hard.)

you are an excellent shooter.

What gam said.

It's one thing to have high end equipment in your hands. But it's a whole nuther thing to have the skills to work 'em. And waz, you got the skills.

Thanks so much for your pics.

Don't stop posting your pics! They're great!!

I appreciate you checking out the pics. I'm glad to contribute to the board.

The lighting at Chiles pressed my camera a little, so these weren't quite pro-level (even with Nikon's best indoor lens).
I hope to get some great Pangos shots this weekend, at the Rose-Garden.
(NBA-arena lighting is designed for cameras.)

Here's the Oregon championship set. I hardly had to process these shots at all. (I do a lot of cropping, though. All photogs do.)
