Go Zags!

Stanford has some tall women--getting all the offensive boards.

Come on, ladies!

They are killing us inside .... We have to rebound better

Baldwinzag
03-28-2011, 05:36 PM
This is the type of game we may need to call on some taller reserves, such as 6'3" Stephanie Golden, who is one of our better rebounders inside. Averaged 10rpg in HS...we're getting smoked on the offensive boards, which limits our fast break opportunities. We have one of the best/efficient transition games in Ladies Basketball, but Stanford is smothering it with their rebounding.

Arrgh !! Katelan and Raeder missing simple lay-ins after beutiful feeds by Courtney.

rawkmandale
03-28-2011, 05:37 PM
We probably will have to start trading three for their two. We have only drawn 3 fouls by driving it, and are getting a lot of resistance at the rim.

Baldwinzag
03-28-2011, 05:40 PM
Have never seen the Lady Zags play tentative --- until now.

Courtney doesn't seem intimidated or affected, but others missing easy lay-ups and put-backs = rattled.

Settle down, make some shots, hit the boards, and run run RUN!

Lots of hook elbows inside by stanford bigs

C.V. turning it into a game--you go girl!!!!

Baldwinzag

Holy 'sloot! CV with 19 pts & 6 mins remaining in 1st half.

One of the best college PG's, if not THE best, to play the game.

WOW.

Stanford shooting 64%, Gonzaga 50% - just need to reverse that.

CV = Basketball Goddess.

We gotta get either Kayla or Kaitlin to be an offensive threat. 'Sloot is keeping us in this. We gotta hit those bunnys

Rebounds now 15-9 Stanford - Gonzaga closing the gap.

1) some one needs to step up on the offensive side and the girls need to get TOUGH on D. Hit those giant chicks... push them around. Throw elbows.
2) CV - you are 10x better than the Jimmer. You can win this thing... carry them.

Baldwinzag

Has the women's All-American teams been announced? If so, did C.V. make the 1st Team? Just curious...

Baldwinzag
03-28-2011, 05:54 PM
Standish & Redmon missing shots they would typically never miss...pick up the slack Ladies!

Baldwinzag
03-28-2011, 06:00 PM
If we improve our half-court defense, become more assertive on the boards, and Courtney continues to do her thing, we have a chance.

The Associated Press men's team was announced today; haven't seen the women's yet; last year it was released on 3/30. It may come out once the Final Four is settled, like the men's

Jeez, what in blazes is Katelan's problem.... fumbling passes, letting rebounds bounce off her hands, missing lay-ins.... She is a former PAC-10 Freshman of the Year, she surely has played these Stanford gals more than any of the Zags..

Come on Kelly, this is time for your greatest all time halftime speech.

Birddog
03-28-2011, 06:07 PM
Those Stanford twins block out for rebounds exceptionally well. The Zags have to counter that somehow. I think they need to just run them into the ground. They were gassed midway through the 1st. Another high octane boost could do them in. The trees were starting to short arm their shots at the end of the half.

EuroZag2010
03-28-2011, 06:12 PM
I feel bad for Kelly Bowen somehow she always gets decked and no calls. We gotta rebound better and hit those easy bunnies

rawkmandale
03-28-2011, 06:12 PM
Yeah - Stanford was clearly getting gassed - amp it up!

U Zig, I Zag
03-28-2011, 06:12 PM
She is doing all she can. Standish is helping, usually she is a dead-eye - but faltering.

They are bigger, faster. It's hard to get into the bread and butter of our game which is transistion off of made/missed baskets.

This is the E8, no feelings to be hurt - CV needs to take it over, Katelyn and Standish can trail her into the paint.

Bump bodies WAY early, girls. Don't let the sisters get down that low!

rawkmandale
03-28-2011, 06:13 PM
Bowen broke her nose in the last game - then took an elbow on it tonite.

Yikes. CV - just take over. Do all you can on offensive. Everyone buckled down on D.

We need a couple of baskets and steals to turn the momentum. The girls could start to shoot, just like Louisville did.

Zags' shots are not falling at all. Girls are too small to go against these Stanford giants.

Run will end here, but pretty amazing.

Hang CV's jersey from the rafters!

Stanford as good as they are, we are having a bad shooting night. Those sister are beasts inside

Jeebus. What happens with the Standford bigs is that we let them get it down low (prob 1) but then we body 'thin' and they go around. Hands straight up, squat - put the legs out, make them go around your knees! They will not turn around fade on you with the same degree of success, force them to do that.

rawkmandale
03-28-2011, 06:37 PM
3 fouls on Bowen and Standish - yeah, Stanford too tall. But, doesn't Gonzaga have a 6'5" kid coming in?

U Zig, I Zag

One person, no matter how awesome that person may be, cannot win a championship level game alone. Michael Jordan couldn't do it. Neither can Courtney. Too darn bad her teammates simply did not show up. She didn't need all that much help.

rawkmandale

Well, I guess we can't take out a team like Stanford just yet - but the program is building - good recruits will come our way, as long as Coach Kelly stays here.

The woman's game is such a different beast.

Yes, a bad day to not hit their shots, but this team is all about movement and Stanford is faster and bigger at almost every spot. They get in the way of Zags' shots, psyches, mojo.

Looking beyond dire now, but I hope the crowd gives them a good send off.

Hope we have some BIG girls coming in. You need that to get past this point.

I understand giving the Player of the Game to one of the winning team, but to give it to the sisters was bogus. Sloot was the best player on the floor. She would have had about 15 assists if her teammates could hit a stinkin shot. I'm still very proud of them, they set the bar a little higher, and Sloot is a pleasure to watch. She sure as hell should be 1st team AA, but I have my reservations.

03-28-2011, 07:11 PM
They didn't finish the way they wanted, certainly - but they are a contender. They had 11k+ at the arena and they stayed till the end.

Things look good. Let's keep Graves, get some fresh talent - SUPPORT the team all season long.

GU basketball, Mid-major majority. Own it all.

I thought GU was doing their absolute best, but it wasn't their night to overachieve against a better team.

It's still a great night to be a Zag, and it should be cherished, because you never know if it will happen again.

sure they have had a terrific season........but it was pretty sad tonight....Courtney couldn't handle all five of the Stanford players....if the team had just made 10 more shots....some of those were simple layups or 4 footers.......just sad.....
