Just caught a Hondo sighting during the last Iowa timeout!

Hate the espn format of so many games on at once, so stuck watching it online here in the Bay Area. I guess it is a good thing that is an option.

Congrats to the Lady Zags but if I was Iowa I would be TICKED about playing the lower seed on there home floor. That is a terrible job by the selection committee.

With her 34 points today, Courtney now needs only 10 more points to reach 2,000 career points.

Courtney was 11 for 11 from the free throw line today plus 3 for 5 from the 3 point line.

Great performance!

I was there an it was a great game, however, the refs were ugly once again.

However what great effort and heart shown by our Lady Zags!

The women's tournament is set up this way because they decided to do it, knowing full well it meant home teams on home floors, including lower seeds. They wanted to increase attendance, a rather stunning, yet noble, goal in a sport that often ignores attendance for TV slots. Iowa has nothing to complain about. It's like going in to get a shot and then complaining that it kinda hurt. Uh, yeh....

Congrats to the Lady Zags but if I was Iowa I would be TICKED about playing the lower seed on there home floor. That is a terrible job by the selection committee.

Their hand was forced. The homecourts are decided in advance (maybe even years in advance) and they pretty much HAD to be an 11 because of seeding and the other top teams also hosting.

It probably is unfair, but the issue is lack of attendance for the first round games - someone is going to have to be that 6. Iowa got the short stick.

Hopefully, Gonzaga will have a more in-depth write up about the game shortly including a box score.

Congratulations, to Courtney and the Lady Zags!!!

Courtney Vandersloot scored a career-high 34 points for Gonzaga.

Vandersloot Leads Zags to 92-86 Upset of No. 6 Iowa

Courtney Vandersloot scored a career-high 34 points.

March 19, 2011

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Courtney Vandersloot scored a career-high 34 points and Kayla Standish added 30 as 11th-seeded Gonzaga beat No. 6 Iowa 92-86 on Saturday in an NCAA tournament first-round game played on Gonzaga's home court.

Gonzaga (29-4), the nation's top scoring team, won its 19th consecutive game, but this was far tougher than the 25-point victories the Bulldogs have been averaging during that stretch.

Iowa (22-9) had to play in front of a large, hostile crowd at Gonzaga's McCarthey Athletic Center, where the Bulldogs have won 30 of their last 31 games. The only loss was to Stanford earlier this season.

Jaime Printy scored 25 points to lead the Hawkeyes...

I was there too.....great crowd and LOUD too....once, in the second half, the ladies had made a stop and there was Sloot regally bringing the ball down the court and the crowd just stood and cheered..(but it did bug me that despite the "sold out" statement there were still seats available).

very nip and tuck....Iowa must have hit 80% of their shots and their big tall girl must have hit on ALL her shots.....and they have incredible 3 points shooters....

I don't know how the zags won....but we had many steals....able to get some rebounds and our gals never, ever quit...and they were down by 7 at the half, and again down by 5 at one point in the second...

Courtney is a god......she hit every one of her free throws when we needed that calm presence....

don't feel too bad for Iowa....they had the refs bailing them out numerous times....the zags got called on 5 walks, Iowa none, even though they were stumbling, bumbling around a lot...

Iowa played very well...excellent effort on their part...

But so happy for our gals......they really belong folks....they really BELONG...

great team effort...great team chemistry...

maybe the best BB game I've ever been too.....

Probably the most exciting game I've seen in person, but my word it was noisy during warm-ups. The volume was set way too high for these old ears, and people around me were complaining of the pain.

Loved the steals and points in the paint, and of course Courtney, Kayla and all the women on the team.

Those seats were sold to UCLA fans who probably didn't care to watch the Zags/Hawkeyes.

It is likely that many Iowa fans and some Griz fans will be leaving town today if they are not already out of here. What happens to those tickets? It would be a shame if there are empty seats at Monday's game.
