Courtney Vandersloot Named WBCA All-Region

Senior point guard is now in the running for the State Farm All-American Team

ATLANTA - Gonzaga University women's basketball senior Courtney Vandersloot continues to earn post season accolades as the guard was among the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Region Eight's All-America nominees.

The WBCA, in cooperation with State Farm®, announced the All-Region nominees for the 2011 State Farm Coaches' All-America Team Wednesday. On Monday, March 21, the State Farm Coaches' All-America Team selection committee will review the 52 total candidates and trim the list to 40 finalists, all of whom will be in the running for selection to the 10-member State Farm Coaches' All-America Team.

Vandersloot, the 2011 Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award winner, was on the short list of four finalists from Region Eight for the third-straight season. She joined a trio of Stanford University stars; Nnemkadi Ogwumike, Kayla Pedersen and Jeannette Pohlen.

Vandersloot currently leads the nation in assists per game at 10.2 and assists-to-turnovers at 3.34. She was named West Coast Conference Player of the Year and Tournament Most Valuable Player for the third-consecutive season in 2011. On Monday she was also named to the official John R. Wooden Award National Ballot, which decides the 2011 Wooden Award All-American Team and Player of the Year.

The State Farm Coaches' All-America Team will be announced at 9 a.m. ET Saturday, April 2, in Indianapolis during the WBCA National Convention, which is held in conjunction with the NCAA® Women's Final Four®.

Also making their respective All-Region team was Iowa senior Kachine Alexander, who Vandersloot and the Bulldogs will face in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday. Gonzaga (28-4), the No. 11 seed in the Spokane Region, opens up the NCAA Tournament, against the Hawkeyes (22-8), the No. 6 seed, at the McCarthey Athletic Center at 1:10 p.m. The game can be seen on ESPN2 and ESPN3.com...

ATLANTA - The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), in cooperation with State Farm®, today announced the finalists for the 2011 NCAA Division I State Farm Coaches' All-America Team.

The 40 finalists, who are voted upon by WBCA-member coaches in each of the eight WBCA geographical regions, are now in the running for selection to the 10-member State Farm Coaches' All-America Team.

The candidates were selected by a vote of committee members comprised of leading basketball coaches, journalists and basketball administrators. The committee will select the winner of the State Farm Wade Trophy from the 10-member NCAA Division I State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team. The winner will be announced at 9 a.m. ET Saturday, April 2 in Indianapolis during the WBCA National Convention, which is being held in conjunction with the 2011 NCAA Women’s Final Four.

From what I understand, the AA teams were chosen after the regular season... so is the Wade Trophy voting taking into consideration things like:

Courtney Vandersloot becoming the BEST PG EVER during the tourney?

1000/2000 is too big to ignore.

Tell you what, if the no-D, whine to the refs Jimmer can get POY, then CV can get this! ;)
