View Full Version : Great Crowd Last Night!

It was supposedly a neutral court. However, I think everyone from the Zappos Rep to the WCC Commissioner could clearly see this was the closest thing to a home game you could get outside of Spokane. Gonzaga is not just a member of the WCC, it IS the WCC. If you have not been to Vegas to see this in person, I highly, highly recommend it!

The crowd was a lot more lively than Sunday night and a great game atmosphere to support a super group of guys. I think the crowd knew we needed to "bring it" as this was perhaps the biggest game for the boys in a long, long, time. Fantastic wins for both the girls and guys. Very pleased, very proud.

Yep. I was there, loud and proud. It was a home game played on a neutral floor. I have a couple thanks to hand out in case anyone happens to be on here

1) To the lady and the guy in front of my friend and I in section 110 row R. I was loud. I complained. I yelled. So thanks for dealing with me.

2) To the gentleman and his wife who let me use their sharpie to get Carters autograph at the end of the game.

Never leave a Zag behind.

Thanks.

If you havent been you definitely should try to go. Its easy for me, as all I have to do is drive over from Los Angeles. But I've been the last two years (since Ive been in college), and I've been to plenty of games at K2 as well. They are each an experience that one should have, but there is nothing like seeing thousands of Zag fans walking through that casino after a win at a "neutral" site.

Converting the "Go Gaels" chants to "Go Zags" when the SMC band is playing as well as high fiving the people at the bar after a win were definitely highlights of this year.

Racous crowd is an understatement - Zags ruled the arena & Vegas in general. Workers at every hotel & every bar that I talked to made statements like "Gonzaga brought the whole city with them didn't they?"

Nothing like 2000 Zag fans walking through the tunnel to the arena chanting "go Gonzaga, G-O-N-Z-A-G-A" or having 900 Zag fans eating & drinking at the Alumni Social before the game (when St. Mary's had 140)!

Enjoyed meeting WooHoo & AZzag & seeing Ezcure again!

Wouldn't miss this event for the world.:000tens:

The 2012 tournament will have the tickets divvied up 9 ways instead of 8 and the BYU fans travel as far and wide as Mormon Crickets. . .not so sure the Orleans will be so Zag-centric next year. . .

I too was able to make it. Just got back into town a few hours ago. I high-fived people up and down the strip, which was crazy in itself. Thousands of fans taking on Vegas! What a highlight.

Expect ticket prices to jump 15-20%. Because that is the only way Vegas will get money out of an LDS crowd. :jk:

BTW, I'm not kidding about the price increase. How else is the WCC going to upgrade their referees?

We were in section 110, row L. We heard you. No complaints. :) We echoed your opinions.

That was fun, for sure.

Were you the guy in GU Blue Dreadlocks at TGI Fridays?

Will it even be at The Orleans next year? Don't get me wrong, I love the place, but with BYU coming into the WCC........

They will represent 40% of the total student body of the WCC. If their alum show the same level of support as GU does, we will need an arena of 15k, or more.

I just hope the addition of BYU to the WCC does not limit the ability of any Zag Fan to attend the tourney in 2012.

The conference will probably need to find a bigger venue. Is the Staples Center booked?

Well if the WCC tourny stays in Vegas bigger venues are:

Mandalay Bay Arena - capacity 12,000
MGM Grand Garden Arena - capacity 17,000

Suspect that these are max capacities and that the arenas would seat less for basketball since the Orleans shows a capacity of 9,500.

Either of those would be great, it would be nice to not have to leave the strip.

Anyone know the circumstances of the St. Marys fan being ejected?

The problem with a bigger venue is that if you have an upset(s) in the semis you have a lot of empty seats for the final. Bad TV (see Big Sky Tourney in the Rose Garden from a few years back).

There were a couple d-bags in Vick jerseys near me, and they kept walking up and down the aisle's swinging a stuffed dog around (the dog had a rope/noose around its neck). They kept swinging it around, and were actually hitting a few people. They were drunk, obnoxious, and just plain morons. Also, the dog they had wasn't even a bulldog, it was a pitbull. (Nice try, Gael fans).

Anyways, they somehow worked there way all the way down to the floor. I think people just started getting annoyed with them, and alerted security. I'm not 100% sure they were actually kicked out though. I watched for a while, and I think the usher just made them go back to their box (There was a private box in the arena, and at least 20 guys in the box, all with Vick jerseys).

They left in a limo, flipping people off. Classy. REEEAAAAALLLL classy.

Wasnt actually ejected. He had a dog on a rope and they took the rope and set him free with his puppy. Which he probably cried into after the game :o

To really sell the idea, one of them should have had a boombox playing that Sarah Mclachlan song from the commercial.

You know what they say... 20 bad apples don't spoil the bunch.

Gotta say..I sat beside one of the Vick guys at blackjack before the game..was a good guy, respectful (to a degee) of the Zags, loved his team and was proud of it.

Hard to find fault with that...

Agreed. Given one-on-one, St. Marys folks are fine people. We ran into a couple a few times that were up in our age group (60ish). They were delightfull and gracious people. Very complimentary of our Women's team and conceded that St. Marys would have an extreme challenge to win that one.

Get them in a group.... Well,.... then they take on a different persona. The whole Vick Jersey - stuffed dog on the end of a rope thing in the Orleans Arena was, IMHO, just in poor taste.

Let me share an event after the game. We (myself, my wife, my daughter and her husdband) left the Orleans in a cab for NYNY for a nice dinner after the Tourney was over. Turns out, it was just the right time to travel down Tropicanna Ave so as to be along side a white stretch SUV Limo full of St. Marys fans wearing Vick jerseys. They were hanging out the windows waving SMC flags along with the stuffed dogs on the ends of ropes. (I have no problem with the SMC flags. Go for it!!)

So...... as our taxi was passing the SMC Limo, I had to roll down the window and hold out one of the GO ZAGS flash cards we picked up from the GU Alumni Pre-Game gathering. All of us yelling "GO ZAGS!!" out of the rolled down windows. The taxi driver was in stitches.

Ends up, they went to NYNY also. No confrontation evolved. It was all in good fun. A great night to be a Zag. :)
