1 plays winner of (5/8) and (5/8 vs. 4)
2 plays winner of (6/7) and (6/7 vs. 3)

Seeds we know no matter what happens tonight:

USF = 3
Pepp = 6

-------
GU will be 1 with SMC loss. 2 with SMC win
SMC = 1 with a win. 2 with a loss

SCU = win will be 4. Loss makes them 5
Port = win and SCU loss will be 4. Loss = 5, unless SCU also loses = 4

SD = 7 with portland loss and lmu loss.
LMU = 7 with win

Maybe? ;)

Portland has a lot riding on the SMC game. Could get interesting

I thought a coin toss is the deciding factor to determine seeding when two teams finish in conference with identical records and split head-to-head match ups.

I don't believe SMC has the #1 seed in the WCC tournament by simply winning tonight against Portland.

That was my thinking anyways... maybe the deciding tie-breaker is RPI. In that case SMC would get the #1 seed by winning tonight and GU would be #2.

Fairly certain the record against the next in line team is the deciding factor. In this case the 3 seed USF. This would make SMC the number 1 seed if they win tonight... Confirmation?

Correct. The link in this thread breaks it down. (http://guboards.spokesmanreview.com/showthread.php?t=33219)

Confirmed. Tie-breaker for WCC is:

Head-to-head (split in this case)
Then record against conference in descending order (record against #3 team when two teams tied for 1st - which SMC gets b/c they swept USF and we split)
Then RPI

There may be one more between record against conference team and rpi, but that won't be necessary this year. Either UP wins and GU is #1 due to conference record, or SMC wins and is the #1 seed because of the tie-breaker.

I don't mind being the two seed and avoiding SCU. Portland and USF are two teams I think we can handle but Foster and SCU scare me a little.

Yes! I agree.

Looks like SMC is going to win v Portland.

(2)GU plays the winner of ((5)Port/(8)USD) and (3)USF.
(1)SMC plays the winner of ((7)LMU/(6)Pepp) and (4)SCU, I believe.

If (big if) the games play out according to seed (lower seeds winning), the two Sunday night games and the final would all be "rubber matches" on a nuetral court.

GU and USF split regular season
SMC and UP split regular season
GU and SMC split regular season

Hmmmmmm....very interesting (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IHAZeqwQvA)

Ah, very good.
Would rather have Portland on the other side anyway.

Question about next year. With 9 teams in the league, will the 8th and 9th teams have to play a play in game in the WCC tourney? That would mean the winner would have to win 5 games to win the tournament. Or, would the 9th team not get in the tournament? Or has it not been decided yet?

I don't know if that has been decided yet, but I have absolutely zero problems having that last place team stay at home. It would bring some drama to the regular season...the race to stay out of last place. It would also seem to make sense from a financial perspective to do it this way. How many fans are going to be in the stands for an 8/9 game at Orleans Arena that will be taking place more than a half week before the tourney title game? Keep in mind, there is going to an off day on Sunday from now on.

I think you need to let all teams into the conference tournament.

Maybe having the 8/9 teams play the Wednesday prior on the 8-seed's home court as a sort of a play-in game?

You're spot on regarding the finances though, why pull those two teams, support staff, etc to LV to have them play in front of 20 people?

Santa Clara over St. Mary's in the Semis.

Kevin Foster is due to go off in a game against a team not named Gonzaga.

They might have:

First night:
9 play 4
8 play 5
6 play 7

Night 2:
3 play the winner of 6/7
4/9 winner play 8/5 winner

Night 3:
1 play 4/9/8/5 winner
2 play 3/6/7 winner

Night 4:
finals
That way it is almost the same as today.

How is that going to work? Are they moving the tournament back a few days?

There won't be a Sunday game. As I recall it being discussed, the tourney will start a day earlier.
