Courtney Vandersloot Tabbed WCC Player of the Week

Point guard averaged 26.0 points and 11.5 assists per game last week

Feb. 21, 2011

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University women's basketball senior Courtney Vandersloot was named West Coast Conference Player of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday. This is Vandersloot's fourth WCC Player of the Week honor this season and 12th of her career.

Vandersloot helped Gonzaga clinch its seventh-straight West Coast Conference regular-season title with two victories this past week. She averaged a double-double of 26.0 points and 11.5 assists per contests over the two wins. She shot 60.0 percent (18-of-30) from the field and hit 86.7 percent (13-of-15) from the free throw line, while also averaging 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game.

She began the week scoring a game-high 24 points and dishing out 11 assists in Gonzaga's 79-65 victory at Santa Clara University. Vandersloot also grabbed seven rebounds and made three steals in 30 minutes of action. She followed that performance up with a double-double of 28 points - a game-high - and 12 assists in the Zags 103-59 win at the University of San Francisco. Vandersloot added five steals and three rebounds.

Vandersloot has registered 14 double-doubles this season and six in the last seven West Coast Conference games and scored 20-plus points in 14 games.

Also nominated this week were Jazmine Jackson of Pepperdine University; Natalie Day of the University of Portland and Jasmine Smith of Saint Mary's College.

I can't wait to see what kind of noise Court and the gang make in the NCAA tourney.

How many points does she need to reach 2,000 for her career ?

How many points does she need to reach 2,000 for her career ?

Reno, in another thread last week, you mentioned that she needed 148 points to reach 2,000.

Courtney scored 28 on last Saturday against USF.

So it looks like she needs 120 more to reach the 2,000 point plateau.

The Lady Zags have 2 more regular season games this week plus a likely 2 games in the WCC tournament plus at least 1 NCAA Tournament game. If the Zags win in the NCAA Tournament, Courtney could get more games to reach that milestone.

Can she score another 120 points in the next five games? That seems to be doable for Courtney. Will Coach Graves keep her in some of the remaining games longer to help her reach 2,000? That is very possible since that would be quite an achievement for her.

Go Courtney!

Go Lady Zags!

According to my research, the first three years of her career from the GU Media Guides, the year to date from the official WCC statistics site:

Year Points

2007/08 478
2008/09 524
2009/10 359
2010 to date 519

Total points: 1880

Incidentally, of the current leading scorers in the WCC Vandersloot is #1 at 18.5; Katelan Redman #2 at 17.4 and Kayla Standish is #4 at at 16.6 and Janelle Bekkering checks in at #16 with 10.9 PPG.
