Yes, looking around at the half, almost NO fans at all have shown up. Sadly, as it seems, security and members of the cleaning crew outnumber the fans. I guess that the fans would come if they believed in the Dons. Which comes first, the USF program or fan support? :explode:

Women's Basketball Wins Seventh-Straight WCC Title

Bulldogs defeat San Francisco 103-59

Feb. 19, 2011

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Gonzaga University women's basketball team captured its seventh-straight West Coast Conference regular-season title with a 103-59 victory over the University of San Francisco at War Memorial Gym Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs improved their record to 24-4 overall and 12-0 in league play with the victory, while the Dons fell to 4-22 overall and 1-11 in conference.

Three of the Bulldogs five starters registered double-figure points to lead them to their 46-22 halftime advantage. Senior Janelle Bekkering hit 5-of-7 from the field, including 3-of-5 from behind the 3-point arc for a team-leading 14 points. Junior Kayla Standish did the heavy loading in the beginning minutes of the contest, scoring 10 of her 12 points over the first seven minutes, including eight-straight that kept the Zags in the early moments of a tight game. Senior Courtney Vandersloot was the final GU player to score double-figures, finishing with 10 points. She also assisted on nine other baskets.

The final five minutes of the first half was the most important for Gonzaga. With the Zags leading 27-22 after Vania Singleterry scored a layup - moving her to 10 points in the half to lead San Francisco - the Dons would be held scoreless for the remainder of the half after the Zags intensified their defense. USF were forced into nine turnovers and just put up two shots.

Gonzaga closed out the half on a 19-0 run to capture its 24-point advantage. Junior Katelan Redmon had all of her eight first half points in the all-important run, including scoring a layup as the halftime buzzer sounded.

The Bulldogs continued to roll in the second half rattling off 25 points before the Dons hit a field. The Dons first field goal since the 5:00 mark of the first half came at 13:08 of the final half on a layup by Bailey Barbour. San Francisco hit five free throws during those minutes but Gonzaga had captured a 69-29 advantage. All-in-all, the Bulldogs rattled off a 49-9 run to break the 20-20 tie at the 8:59 mark of the first half.

Freshman Jazime Redmon was the player to get the Zags above 100 for the sixth time this season, hitting a jumper at the 1:19 mark to put the score at 101-55.

Three Gonzaga players finished the game scoring 20-plus points. Vandersloot led the way with 28 points and added 12 assists, for her 14th double-double of the season and sixth double-double in conference action. She also had five steals and three rebounds. Bekkering was two points shy of tying a career high with 24 points and hit a career-high five 3-pointers in the contest. Standish was the final player to top 20 points, finishing with 21. She added a game-high seven rebounds.

Also scoring double-figures was Redmon with 16.

San Francisco was led by Singleterry with 16 points.

Gonzaga returns to the McCarthey Athletic Center Thursday to host Saint Mary's College. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
