I'm going to pick Phil Mickelson (assuming his wrist is healthy).

jb...not a lot of predictions.

I will pick a guy from PA...LANK-ister County...Jim Furyk...because he hits it pretty straight.

Tiger...

Sleeper pick is Master's Champion Zach Johnson. He plays very well under pressure and has 2 wins on the season.

Ogilvy is definitely a threat on a tough course.

I swear, year after year the US Open website is the worst... They really need to do something about bandwidth for the site.

That's what you get when old golf duffers try to play with technology. :D
Although I am getting the webcast with out any problems.

Well after most of the 1st round having been completed I am hesitant to go with Tiger. Usually if he does not start strong he tends to hang back. Phil's wrist will not hold out and the crowd will get to VJ, Gosen, and Els. I really have no guess as to who will win, but I will venture to say I do not think it will be any of the top golfers. So I am going with some one who has a break out tourney. But I am hoping for Tiger.

Nick Dougherty has the early lead at -2, 68. TW shot a 71. www.golf.com has good pics of the action.

The way the first round is playing out and considering the players in front of him, I would say Tiger is in excellent position.

As is last year's champ, Ogilvy.

2 of my 3 picks are in good shape.

Zach Johnson, not so much.

Could be but the commentators on the web cast just said Tiger has only won 1 time after shooting an over par 1st round. (I think they were talking majors).

Tiger, if he sees only a few real competitors ahead of him on leaderboard, licks his chops and narrows his focus. He knows he's got the game and he plays with/against the the other golfers, intimidates them by lurking... and that's why he's so good.

tiger is the easy pick, furyk is my sleeper, and no way nick hangs on. the course wasnt as bad as i thought it might be today, but lets see what happens in the next run.

The course will get harder as the greens firm up.

Only 1 guy under par midway through the morning session. It's going to be a bloodbath...

Tiger lurking.

My prediction is he will be in the lead by day's end, IF he shoots an even par round today.

I think every golf course should have a 288 yard Par 3...........NOT !

What? That's an easy 3 iron for you isn't it? :D
I agree Reno...I hate holes like that. Meadowood's #16 out here @ Liberty Lake ticks me off. 607 yds p5 from the back tee's but with the last 110 or so a good dog-leg left uphill to a 2-tiered green. The corner is guarded by some sand traps and trees so if you have to be very accurate if you want to cut the corner. The tree in the lower right corner marks where it starts uphill. :argh:

Isn't the 9th Hole at The Links (outside Post Falls) something like 600 yards from the "medium" tees and 700 yards from the tips? They like 'em long up there. . .

The scorecard from their website says it's 777yds from the blacks, and this is their comment about it.

A "Monster"par-6. Drive to right side of fairway then hit your second shot to the left center. On your third shot, hit to the large rock on right side of fairway. This is a two level green and a three-club difference from front to back

I played there the last couple of summers. . .one of my pards ( Jim Solan, GU Law Grad ) played it from the tips and was damn near home in two. . .now HE could handle a 288 Par 3. . .me? I'm happy anytime I sniff 80 @ 6500 yards. Beyond that I'm too short off the tee to have any fun. . .especially when they make up the majority of the diff on the Par 3's.

I'm just not feeling it with Tiger. Those missed putts could haunt him. I don't think that Aussie who leads after Saturday wins it either.

I'll go with either Furyk or the Aussie who shot 66 on Friday.

Two hours into his round and Le Tigre is inconsistent to the same degree as he was dead on yesterday. The golf course is winning.

tiger didnt play like tiger and missed winning the deal by 1 stroke. wow. shows how good he is when he loses and didnt play nearly his best. kudos to the duck, he played through when i thought he was going to choke. nice run by jimmy as well.

Tiger has yet to win a major he didn't lead at the start of final round.

What a loser!

Humm, yes it was generic and a tad vague, but still...where is that pat-on-the-back emoticon? :)

Taking "The Field" was the right call after all. You deserve a laurel and hearty handshake !!
