On a DJ GAY last minute shot ala Mickey McConnell.

I think that was the final score. I must confess that as a 35 year Colorado resident I was sort of rooting for CSU, even though I know it helps us if SDSU has a better record.

marq, baylor, ok state results are far more important. zags need their WINS to get better. they have too many losses to be terribly concerned with the quality of such losses. it goes without saying that they need to avoid BAD losses, but SDSU would have to go 0-for the rest of the year to get to that point.

need to really hope the teams GU beat can mature into nice wins, as xavier certainly has

Those games don't mean jack squat. Zags need to win.

That may be true, but any insurance policy we can get would be good. ;)

Marquette has 9 losses now. They've lost 7 games by 5 or fewer points, and the other 2 games they lost by 8 points each. Average point differential in their losses: 4.6

You talk about coming up 50 cents short........

Not Zag-related, but Sparty looks as horrible as the Zags. Izzo + Lukas + Summers + Green + Roe = usually enough for Izzo to make a good team. They were preseason #2, if I recall.

Marquette is a good team that just can't finish against decent opponents.

Baylor is a very talented team that might be the dumbest D1 team out there. They have 2-3 guys that may play in the NBA and they can't win.

OSU sure looked bad vs Gonzaga so thank you for beating Missouri. Same to Xavier.

This is all moot though. Gonzaga needs to win the tourney to be safe. Winning every game except the final game in LV to SMC might get the Zags in but I doubt anyone wants to take that chance.

Baylor has the heart of a mouse. Burger boys and all. XU loses and slips to 2nd in A-10. But 23 is right. These results are fun to follow but that's about it.

I usually find myself checking the scores of all of Gonzaga's opponents game by game in the latter part of the season, hoping for a slight RPI bump when old foes win a few games.

This year, I just don't think it matters. The Zag RPI is sitting in the 80s. That is way too low for an at large bid. It would probably take a 30-40 spot swing for the Zag RPI to get back to the range for a likely at-large. One or two wins by earlier opponents won't do that. This team needs to win the WCC tourney. Otherwise, this team is headed to the NIT.

Even seeding as more or less a non-issue by this point. A team with an RPI in the 80s is not going to get a favorable seed, even if it wins the conference auto bid. They will be slotted below every team that wins an at-large bid and the lowest at-large is usually seeded around the 12 line. This team will probably play as a 12-14 seed if it makes the tournament by winning the conference tourney.
