The following are the number of reps with 185 lbs (the weight Durant could not lift once in Orlando) each Zag was able to do recently: (Note: Tall, long guys are at a disadvantage with less leverage as their arms are longer.)

Ira - 22x's
Josh - 20x's
Pendo - 15x's
Will - 15x's
Kuso - 11x's
Sorenson - 12x's
LG - 9x's
Theo - 8x's
Downs - 3x's
Pargo - Did not test

----------------------------------

Bodyweights:

Will - 271
Theo - 224
Micah - 194
Josh - 250
Kuso - 235
Bouldin - 225

----------------------------------

Verticals:

Ira tested at a 42 inch vertical. Best of anyone tested. LG was at 39" and most guys between 36-38. Overall the team average is around 37 inches. I'm told this is outstanding.

Apologies for the incomplete list but hopefully this gives everyone an idea. It will be very interesting to me what the numbers look like next test time.

Nice. Looks like Ira is quite the athlete.

Is Pargo hurt or did he just not participate?

For a tall, lean guy, it looks like Josh did pretty well. As an ex-physical trainer I can tell you that tall is not a disadvantage, in strength, but skinny is.

I'm very impressed with Josh's 20 reps...also, big Will's 15 reps is a good sign...

as for Ira, well, the guy is sick; what a stud.

For comparison JP Batista led his draft camp with 26 reps.

And based on the best info I can find Errol "Superman" Knight had a 37" vert

This is a scary bunch of athletes to have to face up against for anyone.

For Will to do more bench press reps w/185 lbs than Kuso, that's a bet I would have lost.

Not sure why no Pargo.

Good to see that Theo is up to 224.

I have to believe that Pargo is around 215-225 with a 40 inch vertical or so.

Will's official height?

I'm most happy about Josh, because that shows a lot of strength and endurance to hit that many reps. I'm most surprised by Will's, as he has obviously come a long way in this regard since first stepping foot on campus. And I'm maybe most disillusioned by Micah's. Granted, he plays on the perimeter a lot, but when we needed him to last year he showed a nice proclivity for getting rebounds and gaining upper body strength would help him get some separation. He's a pretty lean guy, so maybe just has a difficult time gaining weight. But I was pushing more reps at that weight when I was a 150lb senior there at GU, and if I can do it anyone can! :)

Is the 194 on the scale for Mr. Downs an increase over his playing wt. last year ?

I kind of expected Kuso to do a little better on the bench. He could use some strength and bulk to dig out rebounds and put backs. Is he bulking up much?

Yes. Downs was listed at 180 last season.

With Kuso, I think what you saw last season (physical-wise) is about what you'll see next season. He may add a little more muscle but at his stage, he is what he is. My hope: He develops more of an offensive game and stops fouling so much.

No official height numbers, sorry. If I can get them, I certainly will. Will is a legit 7'5", though. That I do know.

Like I said, it's not complete. I hope for more soon.

Btw, JP has the bench press record at 32x. What a rock.

That's getting into NFL-combine territory, not basketball.

Holy $#it (pardon my french), 32 reps of bench pressing holy man. BZ, do you know off the top of your head how much he can press. My guess is a VERY larger number. Glad to see the strength of our guys. We have a very strong group of young men. I would hate to be an opposing post player.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is it better do to more reps at a lower weight, than less reps at a higher one? If I had to pick one, my answer would be the former.

I'd always thought it was body weight or 185 whichever is more.

NFL combine:

Bench Press
All players, with the exception of quarterbacks and wide receivers, participate in this test of strength. The player’s goal in this event is to bench press 225 pounds as many times as possible.

Reps is better for most everyone although one can overdue any form of conditioning. Going for just the most weight you can (just once) is what those people do who compete in weight lifting contests. It doesn't have much relevance to the kind of strength needed by a basketball player.

Its nice to see LG in the mix 9 reps and 39" verticle, it must mean his back is coming along and he'll be ready for the upcoming season. Can't wait to see him back in action.

lol, I wish I could say fantastic but I don't know. I'd hope we shoot more consistently next season. For one of the best FT-shooting teams in the nation, it seemed every team we played did better.

Gurl08, the former is correct.

Bouldin at 225!!! I know he has a thick body, I would think him being at 210-215 would make him a little more explosive. Now he can really post up on some of the smaller guards the zags play.

I can't get over Ira. How are they going to keep him off the floor? That kind of strength and jumping ability just screams for playing time. I have heard that he dunks everything.

Imagine the emotional lift this guy is gonna bring at crucial times. I can hear the TV color commentator now..."This 10-0 Gonzaga run began with that incredible leaping putback by Ira Brown. It seems to have energized this team".

Really....team sports are a series of ebb and flow. Emotional spark plugs like Turiaf, Morrison, and Pendergraft are worth their weight in gold. If Ira brings an attitude with all that ability...watch out! The last thing the opponents need is a guy that keeps Josh constantly fired up :).

The NFL tests at 225 pounds, not 185.

I saw that Larry Allen (offensive guard of Cowboy fame, but now with the Forty Niners) can do 43 reps of 225. I don't believe any rookie at the NFL combine has ever surpassed that. Scroll to the bottom of the next link and dbl click the play button to see a genetic marvel.

Link to Larry (http://websearch.cs.com/gw/boomframe.jsp?query=Larry+Allen+bench+press+reps&page=1&offset=0&result_url=redir%3Fsrc%3Dwebsearch%26requestId%3D6 c98cde60c5599bc%26clickedItemRank%3D1%26userQuery% 3DLarry%2BAllen%2Bbench%2Bpress%2Breps%26clickedIt emURN%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.criticalbench.com%2 52FLarry-Allen-Bench-Press.htm%26invocationType%3D-%26fromPage%3DGWYTop%26amp%3BampTest%3D1&remove_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.criticalbench.com%2FLa rry-Allen-Bench-Press.htm)

I believe I read somewhere that 25 reps of 225 is considered very good for a rookie at the NFL combine. In other words, Jeremy Pargo should probably be skipping his junior year of playing saftey for the USC Trojans to enter the NFL draft.

Okay, but please - (ZagPhish clasps hands, bows head, closes eyes and prays here) - please tell me that Kuso can finally put up a shot more than five feet out. Make it Christmas in June and tell me that, BZ, c'mon! Honestly, it broke my heart every time Kuso would be passed the ball at the top of the key and no defender would even bother hustling up to him; everyone knew he couldn't and wouldn't take the shot. Arm him with a dependable 10-to-12-footer and he's a much bigger threat.

Doing a quick search of Ira's dad's (newid3) posts, I only see two from the same thread. I wonder if he is sneaking a peak now and then?
