View Full Version : Name three things the Zags must do to win

01-26-2011, 01:27 PM

We need to outshoot St. Mary's in two of the three categories: total shots made, 3 pt shots made and FT shots made. I am talking about made shots and not %.

12 or less turnovers

01-26-2011, 02:12 PM
guard the perimeter
dominate the glass
make free throws

Here's the obligatory answer to everyone one of these threads;
Score more than the other team.

1) REBOUND - I think this is HUGE
2) Defend like there is no tomorrow.
3) Rebound - Worth two slots

If we win the boards we win the game .

3(b) We also need a swagger , or killer attitude.

We need to begin to beat teams down like they are Rented Mules. NO Mercy .

Lets begin Thursday .

01-26-2011, 03:54 PM
1) Rebound (+10 at least)
2) Keep Gray and Harris out of foul trouble (and in the game)
3) Make someone other than MM and Dela beat us. Extend the zone and stop the catch & shoot or go to a triangle and two. Give Jones 20+, keep MM and Dela to their averages and we win.......

Start building toward Vegas, and beyond.........

Score more than the other team.

Make sure they score less than the Zags.

Don't let McConnell control the game
Get the ball to Sacre
Knock Steindl on his ass

Veni, vidi, vici ! !

venimos, nosotros vemos, nosotros conquistamos

Knock Steindl on his ass

Totally agree. When will a Zag step forward who has the spirit of a streetfighter in him, and begins to kick some a**......Sorry for the French, but It's time to get rough. It's time to get a new mentality on this team. Basketball these days is not about playing defense soft, nor rebounding like your afraid that your going to get bruised up. Come On Zags. Who are YOU?

01-26-2011, 04:46 PM
Defend 3 pt shooters.
Defend the penetrating players.
If we do those, we will win tomorrow. Of course, boys gotta make free throws.

Go Zags!!!

01-26-2011, 05:02 PM
Defend the 3-no career nights please
Limit TO's-12 or fewer
No offensive Rebounds allowed! Extra possessions will kill us

Scoring will take care of itself if we do these 3 things

01-26-2011, 05:08 PM
1. Stop penetration
2. Don't leave a shooter to help a defender who is beat on penetration
3. If you foul on a drive, foul hard (no 'and 1')

If we can trade 2 pointers with SMC, I think we win.

01-26-2011, 05:10 PM
1.) Score or at least attack off fast break
2.) In half court offenses, establish the paint as a scoring zone
3.) Extend the defensive perimeter; defend far from the basket

01-26-2011, 05:23 PM
Don't give them free possessions.

That alone shoud do it at home.

01-26-2011, 07:57 PM
Commit less than 10 turnovers

Hit 75% or better from the charity stripe

Score at least 28 points in the paint

01-26-2011, 09:09 PM
NO turnovers
And....ahem...make your free throws. (a new issue)
The big three we've struggled with in every loss..some wins too.
Do those and we win convincingly.

01-26-2011, 09:14 PM
1. Disrupt their offense...make it tough for them to start the offense....pressing them from the get go? SG and Keita need to be draped on McConnel and Delly.

2. We need to pound it inside unless they collapse then we'll have to hurt them with the 3's....it would be nice to get Rob Jones in foul trouble.

3. We need to use up the shot clock on offense and make THEM play defense for most of it. We also need to have lots of offensive movement...the chasing type.

When you slow down or stop the ST. Mary's guards....thats their weakness.

01-26-2011, 09:26 PM
St. Mary's is not a great defensive team. We need to exploit that weakness.

01-26-2011, 09:55 PM
3 pt D

Take care of the ball and get good shots

Don't allow any and 1s. If you are going to foul a shooter make it count and don't let them make the 2 or 3 pt fg.

01-26-2011, 10:10 PM
ST Mary's does not shoot as well on the road, so I am feeling pretty confident about what I said that the Zags need to do...out shoot St. Mary's. I think they can do that. MM does not score as much on the road. The Zags, I feel, can defend him. Our biggest challenge is going to be Jones. He's a good scorer and is their best 3 pt shooter which seems odd. Elias MUST guard him tomorrow. I think Elias' defense is going to be more important then his offense. I hope he feels that way.

St. Mary's also turns the ball over against better teams. Their turnover statistics are definitely slanted because of how many easy teams they have played.

Go Zags!

01-27-2011, 09:45 AM
Guard it
Board it
Shoot it

01-27-2011, 10:08 AM
1. Defend.
2. Rebound.
3. Execute.

01-27-2011, 10:35 AM
Last year Elias shows up (Actually essential for this game)
MM, Dele and Jones locked and blocked (no fouls)
Steven at 100% and feelin it.

01-27-2011, 12:39 PM
Get the ball to Sacre
Knock Steindl on his ass

Knock them all on their ass -- each and every one.

When they get up, knock them down again and again.

Tear their hearts out and throw them on the floor.

Pummel them with intensity -- take no prisoners!

Go Zags
