SPOKANE, Wash. (January 19, 2011 – http://www.gozags.com) - Gonzaga University men’s soccer forward Nick Love was drafted in the third round of the MLS Supplemental Draft Tuesday by Real Salt Lake.
Love was an All-West Coast Honorable Mention selection this past season as well as his sophomore campaign of 2008. This past season he scored one goal and added two assists for four points. His lone goal was the match-winner in a 2-1 victory over Seattle University.
For his career Love played in 55 matches with nine goals, seven assists and 25 points. He also had three match-winning goals.
The native of Kaneohe, Hawai’i, joins a Real squad that won the 2009 MLS Cup. This past season the team went 15-4-11 and finished second behind the Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS Western Conference. Real Salt Lake lost to FC Dallas 2-1 in the first round of the MLS Playoffs.
Love becomes the fourth Bulldog to be drafted by an MLS club. Brian Ching was selected in the second round of the 2001 MLS Super Draft by the Los Angeles Galaxy and is active as a member of the Houston Dynamo. George Josten was drafted in the second round of the 2008 MLS Draft by the Columbus Crew. After playing this past season for the Portland Timbers he has decided to forego his professional career and has returned to Gonzaga to complete his degree in mechanical engineering. Austin Washington was also drafted in the 2008 MLS Draft, going in the fourth round to the Chicago Fire, and returned to school this past fall to complete his degree in economics.
