Looks like PMAC is heading to Marshall.

They don't have any point guards on the roster right now, so if he's eligible to play right away it should work out well for him.

Hope he gets "grandfathered" in - usually I'd say not since the NCAA seems like such a stickler often, but it sounds like they're pretty sure down there. Good luck to PMAC in WV!

Wow! If any school seems to have figured out how to plead grandfathering for that rule, it looks like it’s Marshall with the football player. I hope the NCAA extends immediate playing eligibility to Pierre. If he can make a showing that he oriented his plans for accelerated graduation when the rule was still in effect, then it makes the NCAA look bad to deny him.

It's not like he ever redshirted, which is where the abuses seem to have cropped up with coaches reporting that other coaches were "poaching" their players from programs which had paid for 4 years of scholarships (including a freshman redshirt year), gotten only 3 years of playing, and were prepared to pay for a 5th year of scholarship under a 4/5, when experience would have been at peak.

Quick data:

His new coach, a former point guard at NAIA level (where he was a national assists leader) is a returnee, after a fashion, to Marshall.

As a football school made famous by the movie, it looks like most people are discussing that sport for next fall. There’s no mention on the Scout site at all about this (yet). Whether Jones can get the team to an NCAA bid in his first year after the past season’s 13-19 (7-9) is an open question.

It’s definitely a Tigers-dominated conference.

Will have to see if the ooc brings them anywhere into this area like it did last season – I’d go to see him play. Best of luck to him.

Marshall is the kind of school that might be willing to give PMAC a schoolie this year in order to get him for the 2008/09 season. That is, if the NCAA thing doesn't work out that would allow him to play immediately. Very few D-1 programs would be willing to do a 2 years of schoolie money for 1 year of playing type arrangement, but Marshall is so desperate for talent that they might be willing to do it. This would be the best thing for Pierre because it would allow him to finish most if not all of his grad school work while on scholarship.

I felt all along that PMAC would not be going to any BCS type schools because if the NCAA rules against immediate eligibility, he needed to go to a program that is so talent depleted that they might be willing to go for a 2 for 1 arrangement. Marshall, with its almost annual 200+ RPI, certainly fits that criteria.

Did the NCAA recently change the rule for players that have graduated? Didn't PMAC graduate?

NJ,
I don't think that's their main board. The more popular ones are herdnation.com and herdfans.com. I'm a closet Marshall fan.

Spud, yeah they changed it after just one year (which was this last year). Some felt schools even found a way to abuse this. The question remains whether PMAC is grandfathered in. I would think not, unless he got some paperwork going some time ago.

Herdnation is the name of their Rivals board, where I got the linked post. Thanks for the info on herdfans, where he's also already being talked about.

Interesting comment about the paperwork aspect in that thread. IIRC, the rule was dropped around last December.

I doubt the average Marshall fan really understands the quality of player they are getting. Even if it is for 1 year. Texas seemed to appreciate the one year they got out of Durant. PMAC isn't Durant, but he could be a real difference maker for that program. All it takes is a couple good seasons to get the recruiting improved.

Another reason it's possibly a good fit for PMAC is that a new coach is coming in, so a new system is being installed for everyone. It's not like PMAC will be the one cog in the machine who doesn't know what to do - everyone'll be in the same boat.

PMAC certainly had his issues here, but he really didn't get to play a lot of PG, which seems like his natural position, so I hope his last year(s) at Marshall are filled with as much PG as he can handle (and I'm pretty sure they will be if he's the only actual PG on the team...). Besides Memphis, he should really wow the rest of C-USA.

Looks like PMAC will be eligible next year at Marshall. At least if this article (http://www.register-herald.com/sports/local_story_161231925.html?keyword=topstory)is telling the truth.

(The PMAC part is towards the bottom.)
