St Mary's and Loyola play tonight at 6 PM (8 o'clock for WooHoo) on ESPNU. To me, Loyola is the WCC's mystery team, as I expected them to do much better in their OCC games.

This is a great way to start conference play. Should be a good one.

Yes, can't wait!

Also interested in the Xavier/undefeated Cincy game at 7pm (4pm for the west coast)

Thanks for pointing that out, I would have missed it.

Agree, good game to scout.
For those who don't have ESPNU and want to watch the game, it will be streamed here:

The potential game for last place in the conference? It'd be nice if Billy's squad could at least beat Pepp.

The SMC/LMU game should be revealing - is SMC vulnerable to superior athleticism? Can LMU shake of their bad OOC play and become the contender many thought they would be? an SMC loss would be big for our bid to win another WCC title, but I'm not sure I see it. LMU is missing something.

Keating voted for LMU. Few knew SMC would be the main competition.

I'll be at the game.

St. Mary's can SHOOT! Did LMU not get the scouting report?

01-06-2011, 05:35 PM
Jeez, how was LMU picked ahead of SMC in the conference? They look terrible. The Gaels are shooting lights out but a lot of those shots have looked like open shots. I believe that we will be able to at least put a hand in the face and make them contested shots and if they make those, well I can at live with that fact that they were contested.

01-06-2011, 05:35 PM
That they couldn't get a bigger crowd. I doubt any recruits would be excited to play in a gym with such an indecisive recruiting disadvantage.

Intriguing stat:

Zags have committed 63 more TO's than St Mary's at this point in the season.

Of course the level of competition should be noted, but still...monumental difference.

For example, in SMC's latest game vs Miss St, they passed their way to 21 assists compared to just 3 turnovers(0 in 1st half).

Gaels up 15 vs Lions w/2mins remaining 'til half....

Commence the 3pt shooting contest!

LMU shooting 6-8 from long range.

SMC hitting 8-12 from downtown.

Embarassing turnout for LMU

Its not like it would take much to make that HS gym look semi-full, and they can't even get that

I was just thinking, as good as SMC is they still don't fill some WCC opponents' arenas.

St. Marys is making my alma mater look inept. The Gaels are impressive offensively, would like to think the Zags will slow them down on the drives with Sacre and Harris, but Goodson, Gray and maybe Keita are going to have to know what the flavor bubble gum the Gael guards are.

Glad I am from Spokane and can in good conscience call the Zags my home team :)

01-06-2011, 06:27 PM
Is it just me or does st marys look small their interior players? I believe if we choke them with defense in 3's they can't match Harris and Sacre ..

01-06-2011, 06:34 PM
What they lack in size and speed, they more than make up for in discipline and skill, though I keep forcing myself to watch LMU's Defense as much as SMC b/c they are not even playing hand in the face or anything.

Other inexplicable fact; SMC gives up 42 points to LMU at half? I realize they scored 56, but that is still a lot of points to give up.

The Gaels look decent, but they're not going to shoot like that every night. The only thing that allows them to win is if they're unconscious from 3 point land again. Other than that, not worried at all.
