Richie has joined the 1st-place Aisin Seahorses of the Japan Basketball League, the same league that Cory plays in. In his first 2 games with Aisin this weekend, Richie scored 6 points (in 15 min) and 15 points (in 22 min). Aisin won both games over Hokkaido (90-80 & 87-71).

Since the JBL allows only 2 non-Asian players per team - and only 1 on the court at any given time - Richie will be sharing the 40 available minutes with former Cal swingman Ryan Forehan-Kelly. One of Richie's other teammates is J.R. Sakuragi - formerly J.R. Henderson, of UCLA. Sakuragi has Japanese citizenship and doesn't count against the non-Asian limit.

Cory's team, Toshiba, split its two games this weekend against Hitachi. Cory had 16 points in the 78-62 loss and 10 points in the 83-71 win.

Aisin is now 13-5, and Toshiba is 10-8.

Richie and Cory are scheduled to play against each other on December 17 & 18.

Thank you, Stretch! I really appreciate the context you bring! I had forgotten about the rule about only one foreign player on the floor at a time and so was puzzled about the limited minutes Cory sometimes had despite apparent good performance.

Interesting that Richie has apparently decided he's not ready to give up playing yet, despite having said recently that he was retiring.

Good luck to Richie!

but better late than never!

Aisin won the Emperor's Cup, which is one of those mid-season championships you often see in overseas b-ball. Richie scored 10 points in 15 minutes for the victors in the 81-74 OT finale against Panasonic. This was Aisin's fourth consecutive Cup title.

Cory had 13 points and 8 rebounds (19 minutes) in Toshiba's 68-56 quarterfinal loss to Hitachi.
