Looks like JP had a very nice game in a losing 70-78 (http://live.euroleague.net/gamesjs.aspx?ig=uleb_2&st=20&dp=CUTPCF167AE22Q27N5NPC4636&z=1) effort in the first game of Eurocup play against Banvit BK in Turkey this morning, with 20 points on 9-16 shooting, perfect from the line, with 10 rebounds.

JP's LeMans team appears to be struggling right now as they start Eurocup play. They're 2-4 in French Pro A play. The language barrier is enough for me not to be able to figure out what the problem is.

Lots and lots of games still to be played, though.

I haven't looked yet for photos from this morning's game, but I liked this one, taken at a November 5 Pro A League game, especially since it made me chuckle at the memory of Rick Majerus waxing euphoric about JP's "big butt" and the advantages it gave him in the post.

JP's LeMans Team beat the German team out of Oldenberg, Germany, EWE Baskets, pretty handily. Note a couple of familiar names on the EWE baskets team, WSU alum Aaron Baynes, and the rookie, former Portland Pilot Robin Smeulders.

Good news for JP today, as LeMans beat Unics in Eurocup play, so they're now 2-1:

They're 2-6 in Pro-A regular season play.

...LeMans beat Unics in Eurocup play...

And that W in Russia over a very good Unics club turned out to be huge, because...

Le Mans topped Banvit 67-59 (http://www.eurocupbasketball.com/ulebcup/competition/results/showgame?gamecode=66) in Eurocup action today. A loss would've knocked Le Mans out of the competition, but now they're in the driver's seat to finish 2nd in group play and advance to the Top 16. Even if Le Mans loses their last Group A game next week (in Germany against EWE Baskets), they will likely hold the point-differential tiebreaker over Banvit, if Banvit upsets Unics.

JP had just 5 points and 4 boards today, but he's put together some decent numbers in the Eurocup so far:

And after the really slow start in France Pro A, Le Mans has won each of the last 2 weeks - now 4-6. JP has rallied, too. Just 6.4 ppg in the first 5, but 14.0 ppg in the last 5.

JP's totals in Pro A:

Nice game for JP today (26 points!) in a French Pro A game, as LeMans beat Gravelines-Dunkerque 91-86. I have to go look at the standings, because I think LeMans has been struggling and really needed that win.

True, Le Mans has been struggling in the French league, so this W helps for sure. In fact, Le Mans was the only road team to win in Pro A this week, so this helps make up some of the lost ground. Still just 5-8, but I'm thinking this is the start of a run up the league ladder. Super job by #13: 11 of 14 from the field is much more JP-like!

BTW, I never followed up on the Eurocup side, but Le Mans did cinch their spot in the "Last 16" by finishing in the top 2 of their regular season group, Group A:

The Last 16 groupings look like this, with Le Mans in Group J:

This will be another double round-robin stage, with the top 2 from each group advancing to the quarterfinals. So Le Mans will have home & road matches against Goettingen (Germany), Aris (Greece), and Budivelnik (Ukraine).

(And who knows......since Aris is based in Thessaloniki, maybe Matt will be able to show up and lend some support when JP comes to town?)

JP's first game of this stage of the Eurocup will be at Goettingen on Jan.18.

LeMans is playing BG Goettingen at Goettingen now in the first round of Eurocup Top 16 play. Live Stats here (http://live.euroleague.net/gamesjs.aspx?ig=uleb_100&st=20&dp=CUTPCF167AE32Q27N5MX84C47&z=0).

Le Mans picked up an important Eurocup win today, beating Aris 85-70 in France. JP very solid:

All 4 teams in the group are now 1-1. Next week's Eurocup match will be in Ukraine against Budivelnik.

JP's Eurocup season officially ended earlier today. Le Mans was unable to advance out of the Last 16, finishing 2-4 in Group J.

Here are JP's stats and game logs for the Eurocup competition:

On the brighter side, Le Mans has crept up into a tie for 8th in the France Pro A standings. There are 11 games left in the Pro A regular season, and the top 8 teams will qualify for the playoffs.

JP's stats-to-date in Pro A:

05-11-2011, 12:12 PM
Le Mans was able to hold on and secure the final spot in the Pro A playoffs by ending the regular season in 8th place.

JP's numbers for the Pro A regular season:

The best-of-3 quarterfinal playoffs begin next week. Le Mans will take on top-seeded Cholet.

Good luck, JP.

05-17-2011, 12:30 PM
Gutsy effort by 8-seed Le Mans on the road against 1-seed Cholet......but came up a deuce shy. A game-high 23 points from JP, to go with 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

Le Mans hosts Game 2 of the best-of-3 on Friday.

Appreciate the follow-up, Stretch. Thanks!

JP has a great game again. Tallies a game-high 23 points again. And Le Mans loses a close one again.

So the season is over for Le Mans.

As for JP, his "season" never seems to be over. Between his pro career and his commitments to the Brazilian national team, JP has never had a real off-season. And with the FIBA Americas Championship coming up this summer, JP again is likely to be invited to Brazil's squad.

The FIBA Americas tourney will be held in Argentina, and at stake are 2 berths for the 2012 Olympics. With the USA having already qualified for the Olympics, and therefore not participating in Argentina, the field is more even. The host country - with Ginobili, Delfino, and the rest - will be the strong favorite, but the 2nd spot is wide open, so you'd expect Brazil to try to bring in the best available players. And JP certainly fills that bill.

In any event, hope he gets a bit of well-deserved rest!

JP's been visiting in Spokane of late, per his twitter exchange with his LeMans teammate Alex Acker:
