View Full Version : blake griffin vs. Spangler

anyone out there who has seen enough to take a stab at this: what about a comparison between Blake Griffin as a senior in high school and Spangler?
Both are Oklahomans and Oklahoma is a very under the radar state for scouts.
What prompted that thought is that after a season ending injury last year, Griffin is back with a vengeance for the Clippers in exhibition games, notching nice double doubles.

I don't think people realize how ridiculously athletic Griffin is. He's in the 99th percentile. I would not expect Griffin like numbers from Spangler. The knee jerk comparison is natural because they're both from from Oklahoma and both PF/C tweeners.

That being said, still super excited Spangler is coming here and think he has TONS to offer this team.

No way. Stop it.

Griffin was a man among boys...not sure about Spangler

Wait, was that a serious comparison?:lmao:

They both attended small high schools in Oklahoma.

Is this thread a joke? I can't tell.

Listen, Blake Griffin was named the Associated Press, John Wooden, Naismith, and Sporting News player of the year during his years at Oklahoma U. Also, he named the 'Oklahoma High School POY' for his Junior AND Senior years in HS. He was the 1st Overall pick in 2009 NBA draft.

Ryan Spangler is a great get for GU and has a chance to be very productive at this level, yet to compare him to a Blake Griffin at this point in his development/career is unfair and a bit premature, imo. He has a chance to be a special Zag and will carve out his own pathway and probably doesn't compare to many before him.

We'll see...

Blake Griffin will be a NBA all star.

I'll just leave it at that.

Blake Griffin is the next Karl Malone. Spangler won't even play in the NBA

I'd be willing to bet Ryan could dunk on DJ Mbenga right now ;)

How is this thread still breathing?

Considering this thread is trying to compare the hs versions of each. Blake was a 5 star national recruit, with a ridiculous offer list.

Only way to snuff this thing before it becomes fodder for guffaws on the Don's board is the old anti-vampire strategy ...

is the dawns board?

And you've seen him play? Just checking because it's awfully premature to make such a statement, especially if you haven't seen him. Just checking...

I've seen them both play, and I think it's a good comparison. obviously blake isn't there yet, but hes averaging over 15 pts and 10 reb with a good shooting percentage in his first preseason and Bill Simmons already called him one of the best PF's in basketball. There build, athleticism, and strength is similar. I just wish Blake was in Utah right now...
