Elias must have gained some weight since last season. Hopefully muscle mass. Heytvelt put on 20lbs between his sophomore and senior seasons and wasnt really the same player, I thought, although he was still productive and injuries might have been a part of it, too. Surprising that Dower only has three pounds on Elias. Elias is not really a power player per se, but more of a finesse player. His game is build on speed, quickness and jumping ability. Hopefully weight gain will not be detrimental.

doesn't become his worst enemy. It's hard to imagine him sailing through the air with reckless abandon at that weight.

Seems like he'd be more of an airborne middle linebacker, or a building in a hurricane, at that weight.

Can't wait to see his vertical. I'm less worried, otoh, on whether he'll be able to keep his position. He will.

Simply put: Elias is not 245lbs. I tend to believe its a possible misprint or perhaps a strategic move on behalf of the Coaching staff. I sincerely hope any opposing team puts a 250lb forward on Harris, b/c he'll spin, jump, and dart around him all game long. He's closer to 220-225ish.

The proof is in the pudding.

The picture below was taken less than a week ago and while his arms are slightly more toned, his build hasn't changed at all(unlike a Sam Dower).

Elias did not gain 25+ lbs in the past 4 months. No way, no how...

Lastly, Marquise Carter is listed at 178lbs, which seems pretty accurate considering his thinner build at 6'4", but that would equate to Elias outweighing 'Quise by 67 lbs!!! Could that weight difference be remotely possible based on the picture below? No chance, folks.

I don't know how much, if any, weight Elias has gained, but I wondered, when I saw photos during FIBA, if he had bulked up some ... This photo is from a pre-tournament game against Puerto Rico ...

No way does that body weigh 245. Otoh, Dower is about that, legit.

I can see 240, he has a wide upper body and thick legs. If guys like Shawn Marion and Linas Kleiza are 240 and Carlos Delfino is 230 I can see Harris in that range.

I see your point, yet I believe Elias is barely pushing 225lbs, let alone 245lbs.

If we take a quick peek at the players you mentioned in comparison:

Linas Kleiza is listed @ 6'8", 245.
http://ambasketball.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/linas_kleiza2_px600.jpg
I can see it.

Shawn Marion is listed @ 6'7", 228.

I can see it in this case as well.

Carlos Delfino is listed @ 6'7", 230.

Yep, I can definitely see it.

Nope, just can't see it(or believe it).

From the Argentina game at FIBA ... Pretty picture, whether or not it tells us anything. Definitely a powerful upper body ...

Obviously, the first order of business at Kraziness in the Kennel needs to be to haul out the scale and find out: "Who is heavier? Elias Harris? or a Witch???"

6-7, 245 sounds a little chunky to me. Seems like Elias could lose 20 pounds. At 245, Elias could be a tad slower in his drives to the hoop and slower in shaking his defender for an open shot. The extra weight could also negatively impact rebounding since quickness has to be thoroughly integrated with anticipation. Hope he hasn't succumbed to the American fast food diet--but the German diet isn't exactly a paragon of virtue either. Caloric restriction and a moratorium on the weight room might be in order. Hope the trainer has some good ideas.

So, if Elias Harris weighs the same as a duck, he's made of wood.
And therefore...
A Witch!

Based on a couple of the pics I've seen, it does appear that he is a bit bigger...how much bigger is the question. They do have that thing called a "freshman 15."

I think his game would be less dynamic with a lot more weight, but I also think patience is a virtue...so let's bring on the season!

I wonder if he floats?

I'm guessing it's the facial hair that makes him look bigger!

I'll bet a former player from Wake Forest thinks he is 245 ;)

All the more reason he should play the four. Gonna take some muscle to move him out of the way.

Take a look at Yancey Gates for Cincinnatti. That guy can still jump.

Looking at the game pics, 245 is actually very possible. I forgot that he is very well-build, both upper and lower body. I am assuming he played at 225-235 last season. People forget that the the physical demands of a college basketball season sap strength and weight. A lot of basketball players lose weight over a basketball season due to practices, games, traveling, stress, etc. So if he was 220 to 225 at the end of last season, gaining 20 lbs in the off season might not be a huge jump, but rather just getting back lost weight and then adding another 10lbs to a growing body. Elias is 6'7" to 6'8". Adding 10 to 15lbs to that long frame will not be super noticeable if it is evenly distributed. Even adding 5lbs from the time you wake up to later on in the day is easily done through normal hydration and food consumption. Point being is that Elias is probably still growing and adding 10 to 15lbs, even 20 lbs on such a big frame is not unreasonable. A much more relevant measurement than weight would be body fat content, though.

Hope you are joking. Zags are not very strong at all. At least in terms of weightlifting. Heard Elias can only bench 185 three or four times. Basketball players are not supposed to be football players but that is not very good. Thankfully, weight room strength does not translate directly into basketball success.

And weight room strength doesn't necessarily translate into huge weight gains. Depends on how you lift and the regimen you are on. You can get a lot stronger without packing on tons of weight.

If Elias gains one more freaking pound he should be benched. I'm tired of this work in the weight room bs.

This goes double for Sam Dower. Someone needs to lock the doors of the COG and the Martin Center.

I can't guess weights from pictures. Look at the Plumlee brothers playing for Duke who are listed at 240 and 245. When you see them in street clothes, they look like string beans. Granted that the Plumlees have a few inches on EH, but comparing photos of them to EH, EH looks down right porky.

And he is not.

Go Bulldogs!

Amazing how much debate there is over a players weight, yet threads discussing legitimate and interesting topics get locked because some mod doesn't like the subject. It's silliness I tell ya.

Anyone have the phone number for the guy at the state fair that could guess someones weight just by looking at them?

We need an expert opinion here.

elias looked much bigger tonight, and his hops and athleticism are all intact. he was a beast, stroked his usual 3, dunked off two feet springing from a standing position, ripped down boards... he will be a zag great after this year. i could see 240ish.
