Wake Forest suspends junior C Tony Woods indefinitely

    From Rivals:

"Coach Jeff Bzdelik (buzz-DEL’-ik) said Monday that Woods was suspended “in order to allow him to devote his time and effort to address the allegations that he is facing.” Woods was arrested last week and faces misdemeanor charges of assault inflicting serious injury, assault on a female and assault inflicting injury in the presence of a child. According to a report filed by Winston-Salem police, Woods is accused of kicking and pushing down the mother of his 1-year-old son, causing her to fracture her spine. Woods averaged about five points and three rebounds in 31 games last season. He faces a Sept. 30 court date."

Center Tony Woods leaves Wake Forest

Center Tony Woods receives release from Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Junior center Tony Woods has received a release from the Wake Forest basketball program.

The school said Monday that Woods asked for a release so he could pursue other options.

Woods was suspended indefinitely from the program last month after he was arrested on assault charges. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of assaulting a female and was given a suspended 60-day sentence.

Coach Jeff Bzdelik in a statement says that he met with Woods "a number of times and we felt this was the best course of action for him."

Woods averaged about five points and three rebounds in 31 games last season.
