I understand Pangos grew up a big-time Michigan football fan and Cincy bball fan, yet so did most young adults growing up in the early 90's. Still, you've gotta think we're the early favorites, especially after his visit last month.

Heard from a close source his unofficial visit went extremely well -- Kevin played pick-up w/ the team & went up against Marquise Carter, David Stockton, 'Gisto Arop and played pretty decent(shot lights out too). From all accounts, sounds like he & his Father enjoyed their 3-day stay in Spokane and got along great with Coaches & team(although many teammates were out of town).

He'd make a great Zag.

I just hope Kevin realizes we didn't recruit over him with committments from Dranginis & Bell Jr. Actually, he'd be the perfect compliment to those players. Pangos at the 1, Bell Jr. at the 2, and Dranginis at the 3 and mix & match.

Next week Mark Few and I believe Tommy Lloyd will visit the Pangos family in their Toronto area home. Also, Tony Bennett will be visiting. Competition isn't easy here, but I like our chances, though I liked our chances with Wiltjer too.

"Liking our chances" means we're in the hunt. Some will verbal with the Zags, some won't. Wiltjer didn't, so maybe the Zags strike gold with Pangos. Lose one, gain one.

Significance of SAT

A general question. Does reference to the date a player takes the SAT imply some question as to that player's ultimate eligibility to play D1 ball, or is the date of the SAT relevant for all college-bound D1 basketball players regardless of whether they have a 4.0 or a 1.9 average coming out of their junior year? I have seen reference to this issue before, and always wondered whether the referenced kid was borderline eligible such that passing the SAT was a question mark, or whether the mere fact that the test has been taken is some sort of benchmark for ongoing recruitment.

As far as I know, the date given is the date of the test...information only. There are not multiple dates....just a Fall and Spring date. Kids can retake in the Spring if they want to improve on their Fall scores.

I think I remember reading in previous discussions that a student must take their SAT before they can make official visits. Maybe this bodes well for him coming out for 2011 as was mentioned earlier.

There are seven test dates annually for the SAT and students can take them pretty much anytime. Common practice is to take it spring of your junior year and then again your senior year in the fall if you wish to try and improve your scores. Colleges take the best of your sub-tests. The ACT is a similar type of test, but also very different from the SAT.... but can be used the same way for admissions or sports eligibility.

For college eligibility for sports (at D1 level) the NCAA clearinghouse looks at the core gpa of a student (not all classes, but core subjects such as English, math, social studies, etc) and based on that gpa, there is a sliding scale for a minimum SAT/ACT score you need. Basically, the higher your gpa, the lower your test scores can be. You must also have 16 core credits. This procedure only applies to your eligibility for sports. You still must be admitted to the college based on their admission standards.

Additionally, my guess if I read the Pangos situation correctly, is now that he's made the decision to be class of 2011, he's trying to get through the clearinghouse process now so he can make his decision and move forward. I'm sure he could make a decision prior to taking the SAT, but might as well get the ball rolling now.

The Zags took an interest in Kevin when hardly anyone knew about him. The staff have travelled to Ontairo, and Europe to see him play. I can't see him blowing up the way that KW did, and that along with the style of play and the fact that he has already taken an unofficial to Spokane means that we must be a serious contender for his commitment.
