Gonzaga has been Guard U under Mark Few, and there is a feeling among the Zags faithful that they may have landed their best shooter yet. Gonzaga picked up a commitment from Gary Bell Jr. out of Kent, Wash., from the Class of 2011. Bell was being recruited by all the top Pac-10 schools.

How many different schools can the various talking heads refer to as "guard u?"

Didn't your mama ever tell you your face might freeze into that perpetual sneer if you visit guboards too often?

Arizona has been called Point Guard U.

Little does anyone know, Kyle Dranginis shoots it just as well as Gary. I love how Dranginis is below everyone's radar. Even further under than Hyland.

I'll take "Guard U" over "Chicken U" any day of the week.

+1. Always derogative, dismissive or backhanded. Always.

A little hype here, as Dickau, Stepp, Raivio and Frahm are collectively pretty hard to top as shooters. But if Gary is the equal of those guys as a shooter, the other things he can do will put him pretty high on the alltime Zags list.

Come on, you guys don't find it at least a little funny how many different fan bases either claim "guard u" or have had analysts bestow it upon them (2 in this very state) in recent years?

I'm not denying the validity in the comparison for gu, and not frowny about it either - a smirk would have been more appropriate.

You guys need to lighten up

Georgia Tech got that moniker in the late 80s and early 90s, and sent several guards to the NBA to back up the title.

In three years without taking a three pointer and if they abolish the shot clock somehow, then and only then can we begin to think of Bell as in the conversation as best shooter ever at Gonzaga.

Until that happens that is the late great Frank Burgess' status. And while I hope and wish well for Bell, it's a bit premature to say he is in the conversation with Dickau, Morrison, Frahm, Rillie or Raivio.

I tend to think of Bell Jr. as being a scorer as opposed to just being a shooter.
