In a Marquise Carter quote from TSSF, "Gonzaga is going to be tough to beat. Not that tough though," said Carter in an interview with OUHoops.com. "But I really enjoyed my visit in Spokane. Really nice town, nice players. Everything went well."

I can read this two ways: (1) he thinks GU will be a really strong and competivie team or (2) he "hedges his bets" and has not ruled out OU.

Being a realist, the second part of his quote, seems like he has not yet made up his mind about GU and OU. As this was a quote on OUHoops.com, he may not have wanted to appear too positive on his visit to GU...IMO he was pretty impressed with GU and the visit left a heck of a positive impression about our program.

How do the rest of you read this quote? Please chime in...

It seems like he didn't want the OU interviewer to feel bad, so first he said the truth and then the socially proper response.

exactly my take. you don't bash a school, or give them bad news when you are still deciding between them and another school.

i am extremely hopeful after reading the first part of his statement!

"Gonzaga is going to be tough to beat." (how he really feels)
"Not that tough though" (pc correct response to the rival school publication)

I will be honest. I am not sure on this guy. Does he play bigger than his appearance would let you believe? Has he always been a two-sport guy?

I think he is #10 in this first picture.

Always consider who is interviewing the recruit. That's rule #1.

Cappel is a excellent recruiter. With Mason-Griffen gone he is going to throw everything at getting Marquise.

True dat, but if he has the opportunity to meet some of the knucklehead players that are now on the roster (Gallon for one) and compare them to the Zags, he might not be persuaded so easily.

If playing time is high on his list, he might look to Oklahoma over the Zags.

I wonder who will be in Matt's spot.. I don't know if it will be this guy...might be a whole different kid. We need a great PG....not sure this is our kid. Maybe, maybe not..coaches will have to sort this out. Matt's going to be hard to replace. My guess is that Meech won't contribute so much next year. Who steps up? Can't know that right now. Hard to find a big guard with Matt's IQ....and who can shoot. PG is key. We need one...

My guess, FWIW, is that when game time comes this fall, Meech will be the PG. Many reasons for this include familiarity with the system, time over summer, Meech's competitiveness . . .

I know (okay, we all know) we need a PG that can hit even as low a percentage as 30 percent from three and 45 percent from inside the arc. We absolutely need that.

But we also need someone who understands the system, can play defense (and although I will be the first to admit that when Meech's confidence started to fall off the cliff in the 2d half of the season, so did his defense) and has at least some confidence from Mr. Few and co.

I am not certain of who starts PG in the first game of the WCC tourney-- but first game of the year in the fall, only seven months away, with complicated system . . . (and I think he will do the work in the summer--whether it is successful work or not-- I do not know--can GU hire a shooting specialist to work with him? Is that a violation?

The PG job is Meech's to lose. Still. And while I think he is poised to lose it--strap yourselves in because it is going to be a very interesting ride.

Gardening is right up with acting in plays on the lists of some peoples cardinal sins. :lmao:

It's under investigation. Some speculate that he will have to give back the money and possibly lose some eligibility. Others say you might as well put a fork in him. Capel may release him anyway just because of his attitude. Capel is beside himself after this year's debacle. My guess is that he had several talks with his mentor (Coach K) during and after the season about how to handle this crap.

"Gonzaga is going to be tough to beat. Not that tough though." Ok...

I hope we have some solid backup plans for the guard position if we intend to bring in a player eligible to play next year. If he leaves OU this weekend without giving a verbal commitment, that is VERY good news for Gonzaga. I have feeling that Capel with get a commitment this weekend though.

It's going to be an interesting offseason with PLENTY to keep us busy with...

It is quite apparent he believes GU will be really strong and with him helping to run things, we should be ok at the PG position. GU's system is intricate so Coach Few believes that he has the "smarts" to pick it up and be an immediate contributor.

WELCOME Marquise!
