Butler's Coach said it all during pre-game:

"We will be accountable for every posession on the court tonight and pride ourselves on TEAM basketball for 40 minutes."

Love that guy. Love this team.

Also, its A-MAZING how hard Butler plays on both sides of the court. Their kids hustle unlike anything I've seen.

I recall an earlier poster commenting on Butler players pouring sweat during the entire game, its a good point, b/c I can't recall Gonzaga players ever wiping sweat to shoot a FT(save Meech, Manny, & Elias on occasion). Can you picture Gray, Bouldin, Sacre wiping sweat from their face during TO's or FT's? Because I can't...playing hard-nosed defense is what does that to you.

Rooting for Duke would be like rooting for the zombies in "Night of the Living Dead."

Just can't do it. And if Coach K's zombies do win, there isn't even a delicious twist of irony to finish off the drama.

Go Bulldogs.

P.S. 100 of the CBS munchkins who are working tonight's FF are heading for Augusta tomorrow morning.

Duke shooting FT's for touch fouls. Here we go...

On the otherhand, Sheyer and Zoubeck have been hammering Butler players with NO calls. No surprise there. As I was typing, Mack just got body-slammed with no whistle. I admire the refs are letting them play, but if you're going to do that, its gotta be both ways.

Keep fighting, Butler!!

Great example of how cheering for one team affects the way you see the officiating. All I see is Hayward crashing through guys for offensive rebound after offensive rebound. Singled clearly getting fouled going to the rack (he made the shot) and more handchecking by butler than you see in a strip club!

With both sides figuring they are getting hosed my guess is the officials are probably doing a decent job.

Duke wins this game if they get on the glass in the second half. Entertaining game so far!

Again!

Time and time again Butler shoots sub-40% in a Tourney game, yet still in position to win the game. Even when their star player is off, Hayward only has 3 pts thus far.

They do it with defense, everytime.

Butler doesn't score over 70 pts a game and rarely shoots over 40%, yet holds team below 60 pts on average and performs at a high level when they are cold.

If only we comitted ourselves to playing defense like Butler. Oh man, the thought!

How was that a charge on Hayward?!?!!? Heck, Sheyer wasn't even looking or set AND was right under the rim! That is block on the defender by every definition in the rules book.

Now, the officials are just looking uninformed and dumb.

I don't care who you're rooting for, Butler is only getting the slaps called while Duke gets a free pass away from the shot i.e. holds, moving screens, over the backs, pushes for rebounds, going for rebounds, etc.

Amen.

Couldn't agree more. His commentary is worthless and his homerism for Duke is making me sick. Clark has had the audacity to argue every single foul called against Duke and berates the refs for whistlingany foul against them.

What insight, if at all, does he add to this game? Mr. Kellogg is supposed to provide the "color commentary", yet Nance has had to do that in addition to play-by-play. How he was selected as part of CBS #1 team is beyond me.

Heck, Kellogg makes Ehlo sound like Howard Cosell.

Congrats to Butler! They deserve every accolade, kind word, attention they'll receive from this storybook run. They played with unflappable determination, full hearts, and admirable toughness. They'll be right in the thick of things next season(Top 5, maybe?) considering they return everyone on their team.

That had to be one of the best title games I've ever seen. Huge props to Butler, their stars and especially the role guys - Jukes! - who stepped up tonight. Hayward's wayward baseline jumper reminded me of Ammo's missed jumper against UCLA. An inch this way or that and a dream is fulfilled.

That said, Butler is a winner. Duke has the cachet, money, reputation, recruiting - all of it. To even get to that stage, let alone get within a whisper of a national championship with far fewer resources is a testament to every Butler player, coach and admin official who had a role in it.

Congrats, Bulldogs!

Sorry. Just choked is all. Props to Duke for the win.

But.

Three loose ball and one offensive foul on Butlers best player? I could understand if Zoubek was laying a beating on him in the post but if they were to call on the rest of the players, what they called on Howard, there would have been over 40 fouls instead of 32.

Pretty tough to win when one of your top starters plays less than 20 minutes.

Again, props to Duke for the win but I never felt that Butler got the benefit of a single call tonight and were on the wrong end of more than one.

Florida State's defense isn't nearly on the same level as Butler.

How many teams can?:

Hold every tournament team they face to about 60 points?
Shoot less than 35% and win regionals and semi finals?
Go on 2nd half scoring droughts of 5-10 minutes and still win?

Certainly not Florida State.

How many teams can?:

Hold every tournament team they face to about 60 points?
Shoot less than 35% and win regionals and semi finals?
Go on 2nd half scoring droughts of 5-10 minutes and still win?

I'd venture to say that Butler plays better with the hand that was dealt than any team in the country. They are skilled, resilient, tenacious, gritty etc. Insert your own adjective to describe them, Fun to watch too.

Loved it. What a great game from both sides.

However, I was pretty annoyed about how some of the 'experts' kept saying if Butler had won it would've been the greatest upset of the modern age. Seriously? Wasn't Butler preseason top 10? Just because you haven't heard much about them doesn't mean they aren't good. Certainly it wouldn't have been the Greatest Upset Ever.

Grrr.
