Ray McCallum - McDonald's All-American

Pros:
- Son of a Coach
- Passing
- Poise
- Good PG Instincts/Size

Saw that UCLA was recruiting this unsigned 5 star 2010 PG. If Donny Daniels was involved with Ray McCallum's recruitment I wonder if he would consider Gonzaga as a possible college destination? Would Gonzaga be interested? It still looks like he has another "official visit" available (I believe a recruit is allowed 5)... he has visited UCLA, Arizona, Florida, and Oklahoma. The latest ESPN article has him narrowing his college choices to Arizona and Detriot. If he's looking of minutes his freshman year, Gonzaga might be an attractive destination. No inside information... just wondering if the Donny Daniel connection could pay dividends for the unsigned 2010 recruits.

UCLA = Anderson/Lee (Sophomores)
Florida = Boynton (Freshman)
Arizona = Parrom (Freshman)
Oklahom = ?

Look at his weaknesses: shooting and scoring.........are we trying to corner the market on pg's that can't score or shoot? :D

Apparently he really impressed with his PG skills in the McDonald's All-American Game. We can teach a PG to develop an outside shot right ;)

Other key things to note:

1. If he is interested in Detroit (even though his dad coaches there), he is:
- confident in playing in a non-BCS conference
- open to playing at a smaller sized Jesuit university
2. If Donny Daniels recruited him, there may be a connection that Ray McCallum would be interested in pursuing at Gonzaga.

He would be a dream pickup, but not one to hold our breathes on.
With him at the point, Touch of Grey, Elias, Big Rob and the rest of the gang...wow and yahtzee...

During the AA week, he really was impressive, aside from the game.
Displayed better skills and athleticism than most originally thought.

Kansas was really after him and was at one point his leader.

From what I gather by reading a lot of insider Michigan info, he seems destined to play for his father.

Spy....it just says he needs improvement in perimeter shooting....that leads to scoring...the two areas are really combined. Doesnt say he can't shoot/score, just says he could use some improvemnt...like who couldn't use some improvement.
Every other category is quite good. Doubt they gave him 5 stars for nuthin.
Bell/Pangos...we're used to...and both would be great kids to have. Ray sounds like a super kid with lots of upside. Likely he won't be out here but he's worth a look.

Ah, he's from my neck of the woods.... Detroit Country Day is always a top school... the likes of Shane Battier went there. Plus I have a couple of Uni of Detroit Mercy connections... hmm... if I hear anything I'll let you know!

Not going to happen already down to Arizona and Detroit.

"I'm hearing that McCallum has narrowed his college choices to Detroit and Arizona," reports ESPN.com recruiting analyst John Stovall. "Could you imagine the impact he'd have playing for his father -- Ray McCallum Sr. -- in the Horizon League? Wow!"

LG,
If you are going to throw out Det Country Day alums, you can't remiss the greatest player in the history of the school. One Chris Webber.

In my weak opinion, there has never been a more talented power forward to play the game during a three year span (from his high school senior year to the end of his sophmore year in college.) I know, can of worms...but, he was sick. I am talking redonkulous. He wouldn't dunk on you, he would destroy on you. And then snarl at you. :mad:

The whole Fab 5/Webber-gate still hurts, and it's reverberations are still felt to this day. Yes, I can agree that he was a sick player, though, wow.

Sounds like we're too late to get in on the action with Ray McCallum. Oh well... hope he chooses Detroit over Arizona.

Hometown scoop is that RM is very likely to play for his dad at Uni Detroit Mercy. He is a standout PG and could really play at a high level. Unfortunte we won't see his skills on display at a more competitive school. Ah well...

Just watched him in the HS basketball skills competition dunk contest. Wow. He's got hops, and the announcers were saying he had great vision and shooting in practice too

For how much he got paid to go to Michigan I would have hoped he was an all star.
