But it should be noted that Pittsburgh's Jamie Dixon, Florida's Billy Donovan and Gonzaga's Mark Few have already privately passed on Oregon, and Michigan State's Tom Izzo never asked the school to wait for him.

Huh. What a surprise.

But... but... NEW ARENA@#!! PHIL NIGHT!@!@$$ NIKE!!!#@#$#

Obviously, this is just a play by Knight's associates in the media to keep Few's name out of the news until the hire is announced.

Whew--that means there's still a chance I'll be hired as the next HC. I've been sweating it out all week, but since all the other competing candidates have passed on the job, they might actually return my call! I'm more than qualified since I've been wearing Nike shoes for the past 20 years and really like green and yellow as a color-combo. Also, no need for negotiations since I'd settle for the 30 million over 10 years. Plus, my friends say I am totally a "west coast" kind of guy. Sign, sealed, delivered...I'm still in! ;)

Great news. As much as we try to minimize the Oregon coaching opportunity, it was truly a great opportunity for a prospective coach in a large (and usually "power") conference with great resources. The fact that Few would turn it down speaks to the strides the GU program has made.

No Few, no Izzo, no Smith, no Donovan, no Dixon-- in a couple weeks, the headline will be "Ducks forced to re-hire Kent"

Almost a year to the day when UberZagFan officially turned down the head coaching job at the University of Arizona, he has now officially turned down the head coaching job at the University of Oregon.

I could care less what Gary Parrish says without attribution to sources, even anonymous ones. However, this story from the Oregonian (http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindducksbeat/2010/03/oregon_basketball_what_about_m.html) ought to seal the deal:
Oregon basketball: What about Mark Few? UO hasn't asked for permission from Gonzaga AD to speak to him
On Wednesday, Gonzaga sports information director Oliver Pierce said no one from Oregon has contacted Bulldogs athletic director Mike Roth to ask for permission to speak to Few. Gonzaga's season ended March 21, when the Bulldogs lost to Syracuse in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Jamie Dixon has officially taken himself out of consideration as UO's next coach, signing a 2 year extension with the Panthers:
