They just broke into the sports radio station to report that Oregon is holding a press conference at 11:30 and according to Canzano (not quite as infallible as the Pope) Oregon AD Belotti will resign. That should screw up Oregon's search for a BB coach.

Wow, what is going on down there?

Football team a mess, basketball team a mess, AD's office changing.

Not good. Phil Knight better watch his blood pressure.

This has the smell of a conflict between Uncle Phil, the boosters, and the AD.

A serious conflict.

Maybe the basketball shoe exec decided that the next hoops coach should be paid more than the football coach.

Chip Kelley isn't entirely safe either. He is a Belotti man through and through. You have to think that Belotti was manipulating him like a string puppet from the coaches booth.

Maybe the hoops coach they wanted expressed he wants a little more freedom than Belotti was willing to give.

Betting the NCAA says to clean house...you're too close to the shoe industry...which is a lot more than just sneakers these days. Powerful influence in many directs not just athletics. Sorta like legal thuggery...
Long overdue. Good for Oregon....socialists though they may be, looks like they had the sense to smell pending trouble....

Bellotti's a hell of a football coach, but it pains me as someone from the Eugene area with several UO grads in the family, there's something weirdly wrong down there these days.

ETA: Quit to work for ESPN?

Doubt that. NCAA is pretty cozy with the shoe industry, as well. Nike's tentacles are long and strong and legal thuggery has a proud tradition in this country.

Lots of my friends and co-workers are alumni at U of O and the fans don't deserve the crap that is coming out of Eugene.

But here is a question for you NCAA legal scholars. We all know that Oregon can't give cars to BB players under NCAA rules. But what if the U of O Athletic Department arranges for U of O football players to steal cars and give them as gifts to the BB players? Can you find me a paragraph in the NCAA rulebook that says that is prohibited? I think not!

Oh, I agree, but I think it's uncle Phil. I just don't think the NCAA can stand up to him. From the beginning, Bellotti was not going to be involved in the search for the new basketball coach; UO proudly said Nike would assist in that effort. I just see that relationship get more cozy, not less.

Lots of gibberish in this thread- don't know where to start. I'm an ex-Eugenean and have friends there, and it's been said for months that Bellotti was unhappy with doing all the politicking in the AD job.

Some coaches aren't cut out for admin. Belotti left coaching because he wanted to repair his marriage, and couldn't do it with the time demands of coaching, and because he wanted time to go to his youngest kid's school events- something he missed out on with the older ones.

He made a wrong choice in a career change, and isn't happy in the new job, according to some donors/longtime season ticketholders in Eugene.

And the idea that he's been coaching behind the scenes w/ Kelly is taking speculation to a ludicrous level.

My guess is that most of the vitriol here is based on the ongoing Few speculation, which seems pretty baseless. Few has it pretty good where he is.

When Oregon came down and played Boise State last fall, Belloti came down to the sidelines in the second quarter and gave an on-air live interview critiquing Oregon's play to the that point. He then went and talked to Chip Kelly on the sidelines about it.

Unreal.

Bellotti has been hired as a game analyst by ESPN. Hope that lays to rest the previously mentioned gibberish, which seems based on the kind of thinking I have about the Huskies. Pretty sweet gig for him. He'll live in Eugene and fly to his 4 month a year, 1 day a week job, which will probably pay better than the AD job. My educated guess is that he leaves on very good terms with the admin and boosters.

And he'll be as good in the broadcast booth as he was as a coach.

Why do I feel like the UO basketball head coach search will parallel Arizona's last year. I think just about everyone will be offered the job and turn it down. At the end of an embarassing coaching search I think Randy Bennett or PJ Carlissimo will be the last two candidates willing to take the job.

I want you all to know, I've just turned down btoh the OU Bball and AD jobs. They are offering both to the guy who sells the most Nikes in Footlocker over the month of April.
