SPOKANE, Wash. (March 11, 2010 – http://www.gozags.com) – Gonzaga University men’s basketball freshman forward Mangisto Arop underwent successful surgery Wednesday in Spokane to repair his broken left foot, according to Bulldog men’s basketball trainer Jennifer Nyland.
Arop suffered a broken fifth metatarsal in last Sunday’s West Coast Conference Tournament semifinal victory over Loyola Marymount University. The surgery pinned the bone to expedite the healing process. He will be sidelined approximately eight weeks before he can begin a rehabilitation program.
He had come off the bench in all 31 of the Bulldogs games to date prior to the injury, averaging 3.5 ppg, 3.8 rpg and 0.7 assists/game. He was averaging 11.9 minutes/game.
The Bulldogs will find out their NCAA Tournament destination and first round opponent Sunday.
