GU press release:

SPOKANE, Wash. (March 11, 2010 – http://www.gozags.com) – Gonzaga University men’s basketball freshman forward Mangisto Arop underwent successful surgery Wednesday in Spokane to repair his broken left foot, according to Bulldog men’s basketball trainer Jennifer Nyland.

Arop suffered a broken fifth metatarsal in last Sunday’s West Coast Conference Tournament semifinal victory over Loyola Marymount University. The surgery pinned the bone to expedite the healing process. He will be sidelined approximately eight weeks before he can begin a rehabilitation program.

He had come off the bench in all 31 of the Bulldogs games to date prior to the injury, averaging 3.5 ppg, 3.8 rpg and 0.7 assists/game. He was averaging 11.9 minutes/game.

The Bulldogs will find out their NCAA Tournament destination and first round opponent Sunday.

My guess would be an avulsion fracture, but I'll let the MD's on the board chime in.

No way to know without seeing the films (or someone specifically reporting it whose seen them). Assuming he was 100% prior to the injury, it's unlikely to be stress fracture related, but rather an acute fracture related to landing on it (or getting stepped on) during the game.

(MD here but not an orthopedist)

I'm guessing stress fracture.

I figured it was a simple fracture if his foot got stepped on from the top. Usually stress fractures occur over time unless some cad like me decides to run a marathon in one day.

Didn't Manny have some foot issues last summer? The program's due for a stress fracture as well LOL.

I took this picture of Manny's foot, right before they took him in for surgery. It's broken.

That is a joke post right woohoo? That is Mannys foot? That looks like a caucasian foot. Am I wrong here? I think that is woohoo's foot when he kicked the wall after the St Marys loss.

That shot is obviously Manny's foot. Sure it is. Kind of reminded me of a personal friend who plays for the Yankees who refuses to acknowledge a single ounce of black bloodlines and calls himself Indo-Caribbean. The mirror however doesnt lie.

Certainly looks like Manny's broken left foot to me.

Weird....the story in the paper says left foot....but the picture above clearly is of the right foot. So that throws another wrinkle into the story! :)

What kind of flop house was Manny hanging out in after he broke his foot? I can see a Panama Joe straw hat, various wires to last generation video games, and a box shoved full of important papers with a two dollar pair of sunglasses on top. C'mon Manny, pull yourself out of the gutter!

That's WooHoo's hollow leg. He snapped that picture after a big meal.

Let us see a huge sophmore jump next year. (Not that you weren't really good this season)

Get well Manny, Maybe you should just hang out in Spokane, play the pick-up stuff this summer and skip the international circuit. Rest that foot! Big time props next year!
