Perhaps the best compliment any freshman can get is that he doesn't play like a freshman.

Exhibit A: Gonzaga forward Elias Harris.

"He doesn't seem like a freshman," St. Mary's head coach Randy Bennett said.

"He doesn't look like a freshman at all," Portland head coach Eric Reveno said.

After the Zags beat LMU 77-62 on Sunday night, Gonzaga coach Mark Few said Harris compares favorably to his upperclassman teammates. "We run a lot of different stuff and do a lot of different things and he picks up on it as easy as Matt (Bouldin) or Steve (Gray) does," Few said. "I think that's a great quality for a player, especially when you're as talented as he is."
An NBA scout predicted Harris would be taken late in the first round if he were to make himself eligible for the draft.

It's not known whether Harris will turn pro this summer. The scout believes Harris could benefit from another season with the Zags to develop a more well-rounded offensive game. "He needs to be a better shooter," the scout said.

And as good as Harris is on the boards, he did have two games last month, against San Diego and USF, in which he failed to grab even one rebound.

That sounds like someone - dare we say it? - who's a freshman.

Tonight would be a good time for Elias to have another monster game. He's ready for one.

I remember seeing him crash the boards and draw a foul (maybe made one of em, too) late in the game v. LMU.

A great sign.
