GU 72
Memphis 75

No. 17 Gonzaga (18-4) at Memphis (16-6)
Memphis earned its most important win of the season on Wednesday night by knocking off Conference USA-leader UAB at home, but to really get in position for an at-large bid, the Tigers, who are ranked No. 70 in the RPI, need this one even more. And what, on the other hand, is Gonzaga playing for? Nothing, as far as I can tell. The Bulldogs are clearly the superior team, but they are playing this game less than 48 hours after beating Portland at home on Thursday night. Memphis could use another big game from sophomore swingman Wesley Witherspoon, who had a season-high 29 points in the win over the Blazers.

I can't argue with any of his points. I'm sure the oddsmakers will agree also.
That being said.....GU by 5.

I would say that Gonzaga has a lot to play for.....like the possibility of getting a protected seed, which is a huge deal this season. Also the fact that Memphis has beaten the Zags 4x in a row.

Not to mention the possibility of a protected seed in Spokane.

Agreed. Seth clearly forgot that Spokane hosts this year. Zags are on the bubble... of getting to play in town!

I quarrel with the concept of saying one team is clearly superior and then promptly picking them to lose.

The less than 48 hours thing..........anyone remember the Illinois game?

Hmmm......the guys must be tired of getting beaten by Memphis. I think they will put an illegal choke hold on the Tigers and win by 7. And then they will walk around downtown (police escort might be nice) and eat ALL their ribs, kiss some of the pretty Memphis belles, and then head for the plane - very satisfied!

Jesus, what a wonderful scene you paint....I get light headed just thinking about it...

Few's teams haven't yet beaten these guys. (see post #12) we have a superior ranking and plenty of motivation to begin to fix that score. that's incentive enough.

This guy simply saying we're going to mail it in because we have nothing to lose tells me he hasn't given it much thought. Actually, he (the prognosticator) is mailing it in. Which happens.

Go TEAM Zags !

Zags beat Memphis during the '98-'99 year in the preseason NIT. Richie went crazy for like 35 pts.

Dry-Rub only when in Memphis, stay away from the sauce.

Think the key words being about playing less than 48 hours after beating Portland at home. Yes we did the same at Illinois, but it was in overtime. WE dominated early, and I think fatigue had something to do with the Illini 'comeback'. should be interesting----I see a repeat

Good call - yes, it was a repeat.

Now, after a shower - off to find those ribs to eat and some Memphis belles to kiss, then head to the plane.

Very satisfying day....
