    Matt Bouldin.. The First Noel??

Hello everybody. I'm a longtime lurker and a rare poster, but I'm finding a need to comment on last night's entertainment with Davidson.

Although the game itself will be a memorable one specially since Matt wasn't in the line up, I thought the sound bite (and photo) of a young Matt Bouldin was very cool. His voice reminded me of a young Michael Jackson.

Many on this board have problems with Heister and Ehlo calling so many of our games. I can agree to a point, but I would be willing to bet Heister had a lot to do with airing Matt's singing debut. This is something I don't think we'll ever get from Lavin or any of the other ESPN talking heads. Heister gets a big thumbs up from me at least. I really enjoyed it.

Is it the NBA for Matt next year or American Idol? Either way he'll get my vote.

I have a wmv of Matt singing Michael Jackson's "I'll be there", along with "The First Noel." His voice has changed but he's still a good singer. Kinda explains the Taylor Swift connection.

Bob have you heard about the album deal they have? They are in the production and distribution stage right now. It's called "Swift and Swiffer Do Christmas" and it should be available next week.

So leave a little space for one more stocking stuffer.

            Sounded like Michael Jackson

... when he was with the Jackson Five.

Not to denegrate Taylor Swift's talents, because she can entertain, but I don't think she would want to duet with Matt, as he can actually sing!

As a father of two young girls I feel confident in saying that you have no idea what constitutes a talented singer when it comes to the pre-teen scene. Buying a Taylor Swift CD for my daughter made me the best dad in the world (at least for about 32 hours).

If Matt got Taylor onto the GU bandwagon I would be stoked because my daughter would start the application process for GU now (does GU accept 7 year olds yet?).

Too true, I have no confidence in my abilities to spot a talented singer in today's pre-teen world. However, if any association with Taylor brings your daughter, or others, to Gonzaga I'm all for it.

We've got some real characters on THIS Zag team. First an Oscar for Steven and now an Emmy award for Matt as Best newcomer singer of the year. Right on! Go Zags!

Speaking of another Oscar winner at the BIS. I loved the interview with. And the Oscar winning moment was how he ended the interview with Frank Burgess, "Go Zags!" You could just feel his pride in being a Zag.

His voice was great...would like to hear what he sound like now...

Does anyone know of anyone who can bug his shower with a mic?
                          A Zag is generous.

A Zag knows he is much more than the sum of his stats.

A Zag has a desire to be part of something that is bigger than himself.

A snippet re: Bouldin's vocal talents from the Denver Post circa 2007:

He chose Gonzaga over Notre Dame and California, saying he liked how Few developed multidimensional guards such as Blake Stepp and current star Derek Raivio. Bouldin can shoot, rebound, pass - and sing. Yes, before Bouldin tore up Denver-area high school gyms, he was tearing up fans in pro sports venues with his renditions of the national anthem as a grade-schooler. He even cut a CD.

"I was actually going to pursue that as a career," he says. "But it was too much. I was going to baseball, basketball and singing all in the same day."

Of course, that tidbit didn't escape Few. At one practice before Christmas, he announced they'd play carols over the loudspeaker during stretches.

"At first I thought, this is cool because I like Christmas carols," Bouldin says.

Then, blaring out of the loudspeaker came Matt Bouldin, in fourth grade, singing "The First Noel."

                            The rookie had been initiated.
“You’ve got to hit the Zag standard.”

And if it happens, those rites of Autumn become the rites of Spring.
