Just a Reminder this Feast Week

Enjoy the holiday, be thankful for what you have, drive safely and remember that this edition of Zags is talented and promising with great future potential with all the pieces to do special things at Gonzaga...

...but there are ten (10) players who never played a minute of D-1 basketball before five games ago, the majority of players who had never even met each other in person until last summer, new roles to be learned, new personalities and traits for the coaches to adjust to (and vice-versa), and a defense and offense that has not been fully installed yet.

All of that on the heels of losing five seniors and the 15th pick in the NBA draft! Four of those six were starters. And for all their flaws, that Zag team did win the Old Spice Classic, beat Tennessee twice, swept through the WCC, earned a 4 seed and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen, only to lose to a juggernaut Tar Heels team.

Yet, here we Zag fans are, expecting to win the Maui Invitational with a wide-eyed kid from Kamloops often as the first player off the bench.

I'm just saying, keep perspective. It's November. If the guys win, fantastic; if the guys lose, they went 2-1 and finished second. Either way, it'll be a job very well done by Few & Co. and the fellas.

    But most of all--

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYBODY!!!

I also agree. BZ well put. People need to look back on what they predicted for this team by the first of January. The guys have done great and they still have so much to learn. Many of the new players are trying to find where they are suppose to go on the court to start the play, then what they are suppose to do after the first option, and many more things. They soon will know all of these automatically and will be able to start thinking about how to beat their man and score. The key to running a play is find a way to score. Very soon the people like Matt and Steven will be trusting their teammates to make the correct moves and therefore throw the pass where they are suppose to be. That is when this team is going to be really fun to start watching. Win or lose they have done super and are learning alot. This is giving the coaches alot of information to pass on to the players.
