View Full Version : Zags vs Mississippi Valley State Game Prediction

11-12-2009, 08:55 AM
Based on what I've been seeing from other teams this week like North Carolin, Syracuse and Cal I've got to go with:

Gonzaga 83
Mississippi Valley State 58

The season officially starts tomorrow tonight. Yeah!!! Yeah!!!! Yeah!!!

No disrespect to the Delta Devils, but they're gonna have a devil of a time vs the Zags.

Final score? Kiddwell doesn't know, but the margin will be "ball park" 30. (Unless, on Friday, WSU bedevils the D'Devils by 30. In which case, GU beats 'em with a stick on Saturday by thirty-ONE.)

Is it game time yet???!!!

<Mal, the doctor says Kiddwell's caught your fever...> :o

not that i disagree with your final score, but why do the north carolina, syracuse, and cal games have any predictive value for the outcome of our game? i don't get it.

11-12-2009, 09:58 AM
They are very good team (like Gonzaga) who are rebuilding), especially North Carolina and Syracuse. Actually Cal isn't. Just threw them in because they've been on twice. They are all good teams playing teams that are not the same caliber. My final score is acually conservative, which is unlike me. I really was generous to MVS.

11-12-2009, 10:08 AM
I don't know if it's predictive either, but there sure have been some good teams winning some squeaker games (or even losing) vs. very lowly teams. There have been 40 point blowouts as well, but I think the combination of a hyped up low-major vs a dress-rehearsal minded top 25 is providing more interesting outcomes this year. I wouldn't go so far as to say there is a trend, but it seems what should be 25 point margins end up being much more or much less than expected (8 or 45 point margins). It's just a result of these weird matchups. So with that in mind, I predict an 8-45 point win for the Zags. Regardless of the score, the game will be in hand for GU the whole time (or more properly in Few's hands. What a ridiculous exercise.

Zags - 74
MVSU - 53

11-12-2009, 10:16 AM
Zags will absolutely crush MVS. I'll say 88-52

11-12-2009, 10:20 AM
GU 101
MVS 57

Based on the fact they are coming in after playing WSU the night before, the new guys trying to make a splash and put on constant pressure. The rotation is up in the air, so many of the guys are going to be fighting for minutes.

11-12-2009, 10:37 AM
Those of you willing to give 25+ points are braver than I am. I am thinking 15.5 or maybe 16.5 points.

It will be interesting to see if this year's version of the Bulldogs will keep the pedal to the floor and win big against these cupcakes, or whether they will, as has happened so many painful times in the past, back off once victory is assured.

Inquring minds want to know.

Go Bulldogs! Get Bigger!

11-12-2009, 10:40 AM
If they don't play full pedal to the metal I'd be shocked. First game of the year, lots to prove, playing time to be had. I think I was conservative in predicting a 36 point win.

11-12-2009, 10:41 AM
At this time of year, I believe the defense will be ahead of the offense. Therefore I predict 76 - 56 Zags win!!!!

11-12-2009, 11:29 AM
Zags by 12. MVSU will hang around much closer than we, the fans, would like, but they will never actually be in striking range after the first 5-6 minutes.

11-12-2009, 11:49 AM
Our hair and thespians will simply be too much for them.

Zags: 83
MVSU: 64

11-12-2009, 12:06 PM
GU will score over 90 points.

Matt will be doubled and the Bigs will dine.

11-12-2009, 05:29 PM
We're much bigger then them. I did the math but it's boring. We're also better. I say it's not even as close as the Alberta game was in the initial stages, and we make it to 90 points. Final score something like 94-59. Everybody wants to prove themselves, and we aren't overconfident enough to ease up in the second half. Manny, Meech, GJ and Gibbs lead the way with some tenacious D, and Matt, Meech, Harris and Sacre each score over 15, unless it's such a blow out early that they don't make it to 20 minutes.

That is my ridiculously precise prediction.

11-12-2009, 05:35 PM
gu 83 mvsu 68

11-12-2009, 05:57 PM
Unless we're killing them and have to ease up early, i think we score 100 easily.

11-12-2009, 06:54 PM
I'll be shocked if we let them score 50 points. The last two years MVS only scored 25 and 26 points against WSU while the Cougars scored in the 70's.

I don't know if we get a score like that because players and teams change so much, but I'm hoping that we get a similar margin of victory! :)

11-12-2009, 07:13 PM
92-64. Who do you think wins. Mvsu? No, the zags!

11-12-2009, 07:29 PM
The Zags in a blowout with the most impressive thing....the defense.

90-45 with a huge rebounding/blocks/steals margin.

Manny/Kelly/GJ have great games off the bench and score a combined 30 points and grab 15 rebounds between them.

11-12-2009, 09:44 PM
Zags win.

11-12-2009, 10:20 PM
Zags out rebound MVSU by at least a 2 to 1 margin and likely by much more. They win easily but the score differential will be entirely based upon FG percentage and how often Few experiments with lineups.

With all of those offensive rebounds, the Zags will take many more shots. The question is...how many will go in? If they don't we could possibly see several single possessions with 2-3 offensive rebounds. Heck, the Zags could have a lousy FG% and still bury them.

That scenario would make me feel much more uneasy about the Spartans though.

11-13-2009, 07:28 AM
My streak is intact as with every Zag victory I say by 1+. Reality win by 25+.

My prediction Zags 92-59.

Go!! Zags!!!

11-13-2009, 07:48 AM
Gu 176
Mvsu 18

GU 100

And Gonzaga will have to apologize like the Texas high school football team.

11-13-2009, 08:42 AM
until LI weighs in.

Forgot from last year; how many do we usually lose by? :D

11-13-2009, 08:59 AM
As all reports have the D ahead of the offense, and Few will probably want to get most guys some PT, especially towards the end, just to get their feet wet and see how they do, I think the score will end up to be something like 74-43. MVSt will also be tired from playing WSU tonight, so they won't get a lot done.

89-63. 51-24 at the half. Sounds like the Zags want to pressure and run as much as possible, so lots of transition scoring.
