Great stuff...didn't think we'd be on the "top 5" list, but there we are!

Hey, I heard the huskies were good. This list can't be accurate.

If you take a second look, you'll see that UConn made all 3 lists. :lmao:

Good find ZagNative. It will be interesting to see if we crack the top 25 this year.

Keep in mind these results are AFTER the Zags' "cute little run" of '99-'01 when they joined Duke and Michigan State as the only three schools to go back to back to back Sweet 16 (and beyond). Many detractors say the Zags haven't done anything noteworthy since those early days of "the run".

Good find ZagNative. It will be interesting to see if we crack the top 25 this year. You cut me to the quick! The question is not "if" but "when." I intended to refer to "Oh ye of little faith" passage from Matthew Chapter 14, but I got sidetracked reading the source material (http://www.drbo.org/chapter/47014.htm) and forgot to return ....

I don't think we're called upon to walk on water to show the faith, but it wouldn't hurt to at least believe we'll get into the top 25, and sooner rather than later!

Incidentally, here's the table going back to 1999. Still just out of the top 20 for top five rankings.

I agree with Zag79, this is mighty fine company to keep.

There's another potential conclusion to be drawn from this, but I'm not prepared to go there.

Regardless, this shows how impressed the media has been with GU of late

Well, I don't recall too many times when the Zags were ranked in one poll (i.e. AP) and not ranked in the other (ESPN/USA Today). Thus, it would appear that the coaches around the country are equally "impressed" with "GU of late".

It appears that the only folks not "impressed" with "GU of late" are fans of other programs, such as yourself.

Go ten years back, to 1998-1999 and Gonzaga still ranks nicely for a poor lil ol' school just trying to get along in a big bad world. :)

FWIW, The StatSheet doesn't have a comparable report for the Coaches Poll, but there is data on that site that let me look up the final Coaches Poll rankings (http://statsheet.com/mcb/rankings/Coaches?id=1998-1999&=Go) for various years. Going back to the 1998-99 seasons, here's what I find for the final rankings for Gonzaga and UW:

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff232/ZagNative/Screenprints/2009-10-16FinalCoachesPollsince99-2.jpg

Over a span of eleven years, the Zags finished in the top 25 all but three times, plus a couple of times not far out of the top 25, and missed the final rankings just once.

Our neighbors to the west, by contrast, finished in the top 25 just three times (and only one of those times higher than Gonzaga), came in at 34 once, and missed out entirely the remaining seven years.

So, if someone asserts a media bias favoring the Zags, the coaches have also been roped into the conspiracy.

Back to trolling, huh? Why dont't you do a little analysis and see how many times the Zags got there with big neutral or road noncon wins in the early season, vs with conference winning streaks. I'd bet the results might surprise you.

Btw, you already went there- the inference was clear. Might as well come out with it.
