Simi Fajemisin: No "news," really, but I was surprised to see that Greg Hicks (http://gonzaga.scout.com/a.z?s=130&p=2&c=899307) has Fajemisin (who will be visiting September 25) ranked # 4 on his list of top centers in the west, behind Josh Smith, Brandon Cataldo (commit Portland State), and Jordan Railey. Johnny McArthur and Alex Kirk are the next two on the list after Fajemisin. Boy, Kirk's taken a tumble since the time he was all the buzz before the summer.

Hicks' comment about Fajemisin is that he has a chance to be pretty good if he can tone up his body.

Yannick Aatanga: The news about him seems to be there's no news at all. I was hoping we might see a visit lined up, but he hasn't scheduled any visits at all yet, so far as I can tell.

I wonder if it's a hold-up on his SAT or something... Does the school need to have kids' SAT reports in hand before they can visit? Early reports said he had a 3.0 GPA.

Simi is a kid who will need developing and he'd have a chance to start being really good. I'm told it'd take about 2-3 years for him to become the big the team would need. And it may be an excellent plan to redshirt and bring him up slowly.

Re: Cataldo. I was told he'll have a hard time qualifying, hence no big schools interested.

At least. He's a great guy, really nice and would fit in well here. But any contribution at a top 25 level before maybe his senior year would be a surprise to me. No question he'd redshirt and spend the entire year working on his quickness and toughness.

I hear his younger sister (2012) is a baller, too. Maybe the Lady Zags will be interested.

Top Power forwards in the West, per Greg Hicks of Scout (http://scouthoops.scout.com/2/899672.html) today.

He's got for his top five:

1) Terrence Jones, 6-7, Portland (Ore.) Jefferson
2) James Johnson, 6-8, Wildomar (Calif.) Elsinore Virginia
3) Yannick Atanga, 6-6, Ojai (Calif.) Besant Hill
4) Josh Ritchart, 6-7, Auburn (Calif.) Forest Lake Christian
5) John Gage, 6-8, Vashon Island (Wash.) High Stanford

Still no visits set for Atanga, according to Scout (http://scouthoops.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=8&c=1&nid=4364164) and Rivals (http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Yannick-Atanga-98532). Sigh ...

Nice tease. Maybe you can help shed some light on the recruitment of young Mr. Atanga.

Details on Friday from Slipper Still FitsArgh! It's only Wednesday ... This time of the season, time does most certainly not fly!

I just took a peek at a previous thread about him that got the Yannick fever (http://www.guboards.spokesmanreview.com/showthread.php?t=21050)going again.

Well, if he somehow became a Zag, Mark Few would definitely need to buff up to be prepared for the leap his coach last spring caught after Yannick helped first-year Besant Hill, who never had a basketball program before last season, win the California small school Southern Section Championship. That's an armful of excited power forward right there!

Yannick needs to visit the 509!

P.S. I'm not even sure if the Zags are recruiting Yannick, but I guess we'll find out Friday, huh? It will be nice to see some news about him anyway.

Here's some video of Yannick at the Cal Bears camp. Even against better competition, Yannick is still strong on the glass.
