We had good luck with our last Eugene-area player... and our last Eugene-area coach :)

BZ or anyone else confirm? The article said he commited but it is odd not to have it all over the board before the papers. Sounds like he got serious last summer and started working out with personal trainers. Interesting pick up. If it is tru, Welcome to the Zag Family!!!!!!!

from the first link above "North Eugene’s 6-8 junior post Brian Conklin, who has committed to play at Gonzaga, had 18 points and three blocks."

from second link above "2. Brian Conklin PF/C/maybe SF 6'8. Alot like Maarty right now, but he still has some room to grow. Good down low for posting up and good post Defense. Long arms, decent range, good handles for his size, and sees the floor nicely. Would be a nice replacement for Maarty down the road. Very good head on his shoulders and yet again an even bigger home grown boy being from North Eugene.

Bob's note: Brian Conklin from South Eugene's a guy who's definitely someone Kent should haver offered, and probably gotten. Instead, Conklin's headed to Gonzaga according to reports. At six nine he's a player in the mold of Maarty Leunen in some ways. Not as quick with his feet or as good of a shooter at this point in his career, but definitely worthy of a full-ride to Oregon. He's a terrific player. The 5A player of the year last year."

That report is an error. Not true.

Thanks for the clarification BZ. On that note, is committing to a school for sports a binding process or not? I remember that Pendo committed to GU as a soph in HS but I didn't think that it was a binding choice.

Players can "verbal" to a school anytime they want.

BUT - nothing is set in stone until the players sends in a Letter-Of-Intent to a school. The earliest they can do this is in Nov their senior year of HS.

Thanks Lothar. That's what I thought, but I just wanted to clarify it.

Did you catch this further down in the article?

Bob's Note: Tinsley's already been offered by Cal, Nevada, Pepperdine and Gonzaga.

An offer to Tinsley is news to me.

I believe that is another unsubstantiated rumor. BUT, I wish it were true. :D

I think the coaching staff should look into recruiting Jamaal Tinsley of the Indiana Pacers. He's having a decent year when he can stay healthy.
